What would you suggest for a new computer for processing photo's using Lightroom and Photoshop? I have a Nikon D850 and shoot in RAW and use an external hard drive. I currently have the iMac 27" which my husband will inherit! I've been using iMac for the past 15 years but open to anything you'd suggest. Thanks in advance for your input!
A Mac Studio with the Studio Display.

Stay with Mac... if you have the $$$$, bebu has the plan, otherwise if you don't mind a 3" diag. reduction, why not an iMac24... ? I just replaced my 27" with one after buying my wife one following her disastrous window experience. I included upgraded memory and larger SSD size. Totally satisfied.
I use a Mac as well. If you are on a budget, I got a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB ram and 1TB SSD for $1,100 then paired it with a 24" BenQ monitor for $400. I have been very satisfied with the performance and don't think you will need a Mac Studio unless you use lots of layers in Photoshop. If you do, you might consider the Mac Mini with the M2 PRO chip. It is between the standard mini and the Studio. By going with a separate monitor you can upgrade the computer and keep the same monitor.
Good Luck!

While I choke to admit it, Mac is the best for most display and image work. It just stinks at everything else.

Agree with your first sentence, completely disagree with you last, but you are entitled to your opinion.
I have to agree with your disagreement.

I use a Lenovo ideapad 330S,it was very inexpensive, I still use it for my 50+ meg sony a1 images without any slowdown in photoshop.
You do not have to have an expensive computer to process RAW files in Photoshop.
Trust me.

What's wrong with your iMac?

I used Windows PCs from 1986 to 2000. I've used Macs since and find them superior in all respects. I never have software problems. My wife used a PC until last year and had software problems constantly. Since switching to a Mac; no problems. These are facts. Your unsupported opinion is based on what?

Mac Studio and a large monitor. You can order the Studio configured to your needs. I have one and love it.

I purchased a Mac Studio and it is far more computer than I expected. Ax external repository, preferably with a back up is preferable, although you can get several TB on onboard storage it is all on SSDs. IMHO spinning disks still do better over the long term. Having said that, the Mac Minis have also been reported to do yeoman's work in photo processing. Basically the bank account will dictate in this regard.
This will require an external monitor and there are a plethora of those available.

When faced with a hardware upgrade a couple of years ago, I concluded that in the PC world, a high-end gaming computer most closely fits the requirements for robust post-processing work. I did not consider a Mac simply because I had come from the legal world prior to retirement and was not interested in changing platforms.
