What would you suggest for a new computer for processing photo's using Lightroom and Photoshop? I have a Nikon D850 and shoot in RAW and use an external hard drive. I currently have the iMac 27" which my husband will inherit! I've been using iMac for the past 15 years but open to anything you'd suggest. Thanks in advance for your input!

You need to set up some restrictions for the best advice.
- Are you staying with Apple/Mac OS?
- Do you have budget restrictions?
- Do you have space restrictions?
- Do you need to edit videos?
Once you communicate this; you should get viable alternatives for your requirements.

Having been a Mac user in the past I guess my first question would be why are you getting rid of the 27" Mac?
But on to your question, I would stay with Mac, I used to use the 16" Mac Book Pro just for the screen Resolution. Now I use a Lenovo Yoga with an external monitor. But just to be fair Dell makes a laptop that has screen resolution all most as good as the Mac.

Since you are using a Mac , I assume you will likely want to stay with a Mac
Any of the new M powered Macs should be a good fit and quite fast for still photography.
You will want at least 16 gb Ram and personally I would want 2 TB storage .
I keep photo libraries on very fast external SSD’ like those from OWC - those are just about as fast as any internal for photo editing.
Just avoid minimum configurations.

The OP has an Imac 27" which was about $2000 and with inflation the price is about $3500 today. So a Mac Studio for $2000 and the Studio display for $1600 is about the same money.

Huh?
And completely irrelevant.

Why? The Mac Studio is an excellent computer for the purpose.
The OP has used Mac before so she will be familiar with it.
The price should be in her budget range as it cost about the same as her old computer which she gives to her husband.

Not sure why I am actually replying--I must be nuts.
So, the car I purchased 8 years ago cost $50,000. According to your numbers..that same car will cost $87,500 today.
Since I'm giving my car to my daughter-ipso facto-I am willing to spend $87,500 for a new car today.
Your logic makes no sense.
First, Apple's pricing has not increased 75% for the 'same-updated product'.
Second, nothing you say indicates what the OP is willing to spend today.
And while the Studio may be an excellent choice-so is a Mini-so is a 15" MacBook Air w/M2-1TB/16-24MB/Apple Refurbished--the same or less than the 'original' $2000.
But all this is a true waste of time until the OP states their minimum requirements.

I'm currently using an Apple MacBook M1 Pro, with a couple of external hard-drives, as well as film and flatbed scanners. Since we do a lot of traveling, the MacBook works out well (one of the external hard-drives always goes with me since it contains a copy of my photo archive, which allows me to keep it up-to-date while on the road). While I used to have a large format ('B' size) photo printer, I only now have a Canon 4 x 6 Selphy CP900 dye-sublimation photo printer. For anything larger than that, I use a printing service.

While I've used PC's in the past, it was never for processing photos. I've always had a Mac of some kind for that sort of work. Since I retired, I no longer have a need for a PC and so we're now 100% an Apple home.

Anyway, that's how I work, but as the say, your mileage may vary.

I was going to suggest the iMac 27", but Apple is not making them right now. I understand Apple is bringing the 27" back in 2025, but that is not firm.

Can you get by with the 24" iMac?

When faced with a hardware upgrade a couple of years ago, I concluded that in the PC world, a high-end gaming computer most closely fits the requirements for robust post-processing work. I did not consider a Mac simply because I had come from the legal world prior to retirement and was not interested in changing platforms.

A gaming computer is no different, just already has a lot of memory, speed, etc. that's why a lot of us get them. But you still need to double check what is in it. There are low end and high end, low end may not work.

So, you need to check memory, graphics, speed etc to make sure it will be enough computer to do what you want.

Everyone has a budget for almost everything. MACs are made for artists, no matter what other say, and photographers are definitely artists. Whoyagonna call when things go sideways with Gates's Follies? Apple Care is just one great features to remind you of those 15 years of pain-free computing. Remember the two kinds of computer users: Those who have switched, and those you have not yet seen the light.

I'm a PC person for decades. Thus traveling to the Apple world would entail a shift and change I couldn't do at age 90. You are an Apple/Mac world person. It would be daunting for you to change worlds. Stick with Mac.
