It's about time! Sirius XM is being sued because it's so difficult to cancel service. The difficulty of canceling is one reason why I would never sign up with them again. I have a Lifetime subscription, and until they cancel that, I'll stick with it.

I just canceled XM service a few days ago. Started online but was required to speak to an agent via chat. It was frustrating, but ultimately successful without too much time wasted. They kept coming back with "better offers," lower monthly price for fewer channels. I had to be pretty insistent that I wanted to completely cancel.

I haven't had too much trouble. I remain insistent and then get a confirmation number.

I can dispute the charge with the card company.

Sometimes that works. However, if you have a contract with a company, the CC bank can't break it. I had that problem a while ago.

Right now, I have a JetBlue CC that I want to cancel, but I have to call them to do it. Online cancelation doesn't work. I have till May to cancel.

So odd. I just cancelled my Sirius XM on 3 cars last week. I did it online and there was no problem. All three cars were deactivated and my credit card was refunded within 48 hours. Only reason I cancelled is because I am selling cars. I loved having satellite radio in the middle of nowhere when traveling. But I also have bluetooth in all my cars with hundreds of MP3s on my Apple Nano and iPhones.

Thanks for the warning. We have XM for one car.

FYI, you can use XM from an app on your iPhone (maybe other brands) and connect to your entertainment center in another car.

Perhaps the lawsuit changed their procedures. I was never able to cancel online. I had to spend a long time on the phone talking to many people and rejecting many offers.

Maybe that's changed, but the last I saw, that incurred an additional monthly charge.

I have been given free trials for 6 months on the last 5 vehicles but have never activated one. I prefer local stations with news and weather. However, that has not stopped them from sending all kinds of mail telling me to get it activated!

They keep sending me activation notices on TWO vehicles that I sold years ago!!

I’ve had XM, then SiriusXM since the early days. Every year, I get a letter saying my current subscription is expiring and will renewed for a ridiculous price. I wait until about a week before that date and negotiate a go forward price. The last time, about 6 months ago, the negotiated price was “guaranteed” to renew at the same without further negotiation, but I would still get an announcement. To be honest, I don’t see the big deal here. If you have a Xfinity or other combination package, you likely make the same call. If you don’t, you’re losing money if blindly accepting things as is and do nothing. It’s the world we live in.

I read about the lawsuit. In the past, every time I've tried to cancel, they've worked out a deal I could live with. I finally decided to ditch them, and it was actually easy. One week after the radio went silent, I got an email with an offer I couldn't refuse. 5 bucks a month plus the royalty fee for 2 years with a right to cancel at any time. It's the only game in town if you want to listen to 40s music, so I took it. We'll see what happens in 2 years.

This is the same deal I got about nine months ago. Since then I purchased a different vehicle with a free 90 day subscription. Sirius actually transferred my $5.00/month subscription to the new car, put it on hold and turned on the free subscription for the 90 day trial, then restarted the $5.00/ month subscription. All without my intervention. Maybe all of that happened because they know me already. I have cancelled many subscription plans with them in the past when listening patterns change.
Good luck and Happy New Year everyone!!!

Internet Radio is a good alternative for home. I bought a "Grace" years ago, and there are loads of stations available. There are lots of choices available.

Pandora is my solution - $5.99/month for Pandora Plus with no ads.

Making Playlists is too labor intensive. I choose Pandora "stations" for artists that I like and hear those and similar music. It works great for me.

Also, Pandora has an offline mode that does not require internet access. I use this where I don't have WiFi, like in the car and while hiking.

By the way, Pandora has a 40's Music station. You can choose stations by style as well as by artist.

I also have a lifetime subscription originally with XM. When they merged with Sirius they said the lifetime could be transferred 3 times only. After being sued about that they now can transfer forever. I have transferred it to 5 different cars.

I have had a similar deal for probably 10 years now. $6 to $7 per month total (one car radio plus web/app streaming for where ever else I need it) for a year at a time. Evey year, I renew. If they say that deal is no longer available, I say that I will cancel, and they magically find a deal in that range.

Just change your credit card and you will be rid of them.
