Solution to all this. Put the music you want to listen to on a flash drive and never have to listen to something you don't like or to a commercial again in you life. By the way, if you have a lifetime subscription, why would you need to sign up again?

When I was sure I'd cancel my Sirius subscription, I started recording the 40s station. Now I have 300+ hours recorded but renewed my subscription. But there is a bright side. I have two cars and only one Sirius radio. I can listen to those recordings in the car that doesn't have one.

But what if I don't have a particular genre in my collection I feel like listening to?
XM has many genre options.

My experience also and I hope they're successful in their lawsuit. I tried to cancel and finally simply had my credit card company refuse all payments to them. They then threatened to sue me for payment and bugged me for about two months with phone calls at all hours of the day.

Interesting--I have never had a problem with cancelling. I just call them, ask for a supervisor, and talk with them. Done.
I’ve had Sirius XM since 2010. Each year when it comes around to renew, I call and negotiate with the representative. I don’t listen to many channels on Sirius so that helps keep the cost down, don’t need all the channels. I also have two cars and use that as a bargaining chip.

They can be a real pain in the a$$ to deal with but you can win with patience.
Canceling is easy. State that you are selling/trading-in the vehicle and no longer want the service.
------------------------
You can get their service for about $6/mo if you persevere.
Here is how I negotiate with them.
Wait until you are just a few days away from the end of your trial period.
You MUST physically call them on the phone; you cannot barter online.
Play along with them but keep refusing their initial offers.
You will get the run-a-round with multiple unacceptable offers.
Just keep refusing. Have them transfer you to an ‘Account Specialist’.
They will also make 1 or 2 offers.
You will finally get to about $5/mo. It may be $25/5 mo, or $30/6 mo.
I had to do this for a couple of years.
This year they finally offered me $60/yr. and I got it for both cars.
They really do offer a lot of variety so check out their website.
Also, with your subscription, they may not tell you this, they have a mobile app & a Windows app that is free.

XM has many genre options.
Download options are nearly unlimited. Most are free. Can't find an mp3 of what you want, download an mp4 of it and strip the audio.
I had xm radio ans had to go to bank and get a new number on my debit card. Now they can't renew automatically anymore. I pay for Amazon music and make Playlist for my taste such as country, oldies, Christmas music etc and play that now in my car. Whatever song I want is available
They have a link on their web site that shows you can cancel online but when you click on it you get this message.
WE'RE SORRY
We're experiencing technical issues and are working to resolve it.
Until then, we can help you.

They have been experiencing these "technical issues" for over a year now as I got this same message a year ago when I tried to cancel online.

They are.
But I might want to listen to something once in a blue moon, on a whim, while traveling, like in the car on a long trip. Too bad I didn't feel like listening to it before I left.
Then again, I don't have all the songs from the 50s through 80s+.
I'll hear things on XM that I don't have in the library.
I might even stick a few CDs of infrequently listened in the car.
I think between my wife and I we have about 4,600 songs on file.

I went online and did the cancellation through the chat process. At first they tried to get me to stay on by lowering the price. I explained to them that the radio was in my wife's car. Since she passed away and since I am 81 years old (both true) I had no interest in keeping the service. They went ahead and cancelled the service and told me I had a $7.50 refund which I would receive in about two weeks. It's been about four months and I haven't seen the refund. I doubt I ever will.

There's probably a refund processing fee of $7.50........
I have had XM since I 1st heard of it... many years ago. I started out with an XM receiver which I routed audio out to audio input of a car radio... after that I have had 2 automobiles (with built in XM) at a time. I never had any problems canceling or changing the plans. The most recent cancellation involved a bit of conversation where they kept lowering the price several steps till I just said no way, I was not driving the car so I was not going to pay... and they accepted that.
They did since start sending me snail-mail offers and when I was driving more I called them and took 2 auto plans for a low price (one is less than $5/month and the other $6 or $7/month... separate offers with separate situations). After a year for one and 2 years for the other I will most likely continue the plans.
I also have a 64GB USB thumb drive in each car with various music accessed via my custom playlists (thinking about going above 64GB as I build my music repository; however, sometimes I want news or sports or some music I don't have.
Yes, I do not ever go long without some type of sound keeping me company!
By the way... if I ever have a problem with XM, or anyone, not cancelling ... I will just cancel the credit card it is charged on... I have done it a couple of times for myself and once when administering my mother-in-laws affairs (unbelievable experience with her T-Mobile account)... i have plenty of cards to swap the legitimate business to.
