Dick, thanks for looking!
You did comment, you said you liked the composition. But just by looking, you had a reaction beyond the composition. You don't need to know anything about rope, just to state your initial gut reaction. I'll admit, the second I saw this Model I knew exactly what I wanted to do, not because I'm into very large women but because I'm into creating art and I could envision the raw, edgy assault on the eyes and on some's sensibilities!!! LoL
Don't be afraid to state your initial gut reaction, good or bad.
I'm thinking of a series that I could sell!!!

Okay, I'll say it, it's just gross.
Why did you feel the need to bring back a 5-year old thread?
Especially since you didn't like it.
Nope, not art or art nude. It's Fetish. IMHO, a neutral subject.

And fetish can't be art? I never heard that rule.

As I noted..IMHO, neutral, for some maybe art..for others, maybe not....

Personally I feel this is one of the most beautiful pieces of photographic nude art I've ever created.
The model is unorthodox as is the genre of Shibari.
On the heels of my last discussion, I'd like to know WHAT and HOW you feel/think about this piece?
I'm glad to answer anything you might ask(when I'm here)

I guess the important thing is that you like it and have, as you said, a predilection for overweight women. It doesn't appeal to me (at all), though on a positive note I would say that monochrome treatment works far better for this sort of photography than colour - focusses on the simplicity. Also, the fact that her head is turned slightly away adds a little mystery. On a personal level, looking at the image I see an unhealthily overweight person with stretch marks, uncomfortably trussed up. Just my view. But if it appeals to others, you've achieved your aim. All very subjective isn't it? A beautiful flower would have obvious appeal; but so too a weed depending on creative input by the photographer. I'm not drawing any analogy to your model, by the way, with the weed comparrison. One thing that does interest me . . . how long did it take you to tie her up?

It's grotesque. I don't even want to read the comments.
Not sure I would be happy with this if it were mine. I assume the OP has the same dilemma and thus the question. Not because of model or subject but because it's harsh... and crisp.. and raw - so you are left to judge it on its content and not the art. If you like this sort of content- either the ropes or the model or bondage - thats who you are shooting it for.
I think you could make it more universally interesting by carefully adjusting things like - lighting, DOF, expression, eye contact, focus, perspective, perhaps fog... crop, add some sort of background... these are things I would consider to make it work better for me , to force the viewer to consider whats going on rather than solve all these things for them with a slap in the face of it. Its sort of Maplethorp'ish of his more controversial images- and I didn't care for his stuff like that either.

Photographically this is a well done shot. I'll give you that. But, I'm sorry, I wouldn't want to look at it before lunch. Most unappealing!! I'd consider it "Art" but never would I consider it "Beauty". It reminded me of an Italian deli.

Actually, that's more appealing!
It seems that the consensus is that the photo is technically good but some viewers like heavy women and others do not. And that affects whether they "like" or "dislike" the entire photo. I personally don't care for photos of heavy persons, and in this photo (as others have pointed out) find the white patterned rope distracting (most shibari rope is not patterned). But what does it matter what I think?
Regardless, it has been an interesting discussion; thanks for being such a good sport.
I think it is grotesque. Imho.
