I like the original image. A bit cluttered background, but I like the scarf, sunglasses are fine, the white dots, maybe loss them. Looks like a 1980's film image, so I think that is an interesting vibe (sunglasses also have that 80's vibe). Technically some things to improve, but on the impact scale, very nice.

A few things to make it better:
Properly focused.
Remove/avoid background clutter. (Less is more.)
No scarf.
No sparkly dot things.
Better facial attitude.
Better lighting. (Soft lighting from one side, for example. This can usually be achieved by using window light. You might also want to invest in a light reflector - or even a large sheet of polystyrene can do the trick.)
Improve on the image definition.
Good luck.
Doesn't anyone bother to read the date of the original post? The OP hasn't posted anything since 2019...

It certainly is interesting that old threads get resurrected from time to time. Some actually deserve a second look... but yeah, do people not notice dates?

So four years on, what do you think you could have done to make a better image?
More clarity and lose the scarf.

Happy Birthday Natcw80!
Many happy returns...
You can see that most responders are saying the same thing. In my line of thinking this is a picture rather than a photograph. There is no effort in this image production. Photographs are thought out in advance with some sort of thing and as best as possible stick to that theme

This looks like an unposed snap shot. Unclutter the background, pose the poor girl, loose the shades unless they are part of the statement you are trying to make. The lights are a distraction. They could be used to define shape or center the attention if you wanted. I'll bet that she would love to be the center of attention in a private session. Good luck.

You don't seem to know the definition of "picture". It doesn't mean a lousy photograph. Paintings and drawings are pictures, and they are usually thought out in advance.
