That is exactly what Canikon and others are doing - and very few of their products are used by REAL photographers = only by label worshipers and posers.
OK...so which one are you! A "real" photographer? Or a "label worshiper/poser"? And how can you tell?! I own the 70~200mm. And the 200~500mm. And the 24~70mm. And a few other very nice Nikon lenses and bodies. I sure would like to know which category I fit into! You know...just so I can sleep at night!!

Me too. Will be helpful to know. Still trying to figure out what the comment meant.

If you're happy then that is what matters - and I'll be happy for you. I'm sure that you're both real photographers.
For me GAS is synonymous with Label Worship and Posing, and encouraged by manufacturers.
Acquiring gear simply to own it makes collectors - not photographers. I do see the results in this forum, and I do look at the equipment used (PicInfo!). Often that info puts me off ever wishing for the expensive gear listed.

So if I buy an off label lens like a Sigma or Tamron I’m ok but if I buy the Canon equivalent I’m a poser and not a real photographer? When I read your first comment I thought you must be replying to the wrong post. The second post showed you were serious, although I scarcely understand your point. No disrespect intended.

I understand what you are saying. On the other hand, I do not consider myself NOT a photographer because I own a time of equipment. There is pride and excitement of ownership and acquiring new equipment. I love new equipment. I treat it very well, take care of it and use it continuously.
There is a thing called reverse snobbery, which takes the joy and pleasure away from those who have by those who wish they have. By the way, would you please give us better clarity of your definition of what a photographer is?
I love form, function of technology and balance them so that I get pleasure photographing with the tools I choose to make and buy.
While I understand the joy and pride of getting your new camera, there were a bit too many posts of the boxes, rather than the photographs taken with them.

Hello, my name is Basil and I'm a Gas-o-holic! I just can't stop myself from wanting new lenses and fun accessories.
Congrats on the new lens - have fun with it until the G.A.S strikes again.

Not at all - my posts were to do with GAS, and i did not intend to suggest that all Canikon equipment owners were collectors rather than photographers. However, I believe that there is a percentage who are, and they are driven by GAS rather than a serious desire to improve their photography - their saving grace is they tend to love gadgets.
I'd best shut up.
