As you go through life, you will see that there is much we don't understand. The only thing we know for sure is removing the mirror makes a better digital camera.
My question is....."Why should I pour all that money into mirrorless when I can shoot in live view with any of my three Nikon DSLRs? Just this last week I had my D780 with and purposely took images using live view. At the same time have been doing some video testing with it as well.
The hands-on answer to "Why EVF ?" is "Make regular use of your SLR in LV and the answer will be more than obvious".

Until your battery gets low. Without a battery, your MILC shows nothing.

Very true. Great point !!! You can actually see thru an SLR even when the battery is dead and it cant operate. Clearly thaz the huuuuuuuge advantage of an SLR. Thanx so much for pointing that out.

If you want to switch to mirrorless do it. If you don't want don't do it. Don't care about what others do. If you see no reason to switch then don't. If you see reasons to switch then do. Don't ask others as to why or should you do it. Only you know if you should switch.
We STILL have our 21 year old Subaru LL Bean edition... Buy quality and maintain and use what you have...
Problem was I wasn't using it much at all, as we have two cars. I gave it to one of my daughters. I do miss it though. As well as my 1973 Opel Manta Rally... FUN little car!

OMG so true!! Be sure to carry two spare fully charged batteries when using a mirrorless camera.
Oh yezzzz .... When youre comparing the weight of an EVF versus an SLR, the EVF must be weighed with four batteries and the SLR with only two batteries. This will minimize the weight difference and prove that EVFs are just a scam. The EVFs two extra batteries weigh about the same as the mirror and prism that define the SLR.
Consider how confusing an EVF can be compared to an SLR. If you cant see thru an SLR then you KNOW its the lens cap. But with an EVF you hafta figger it out whether its the lens cap OR the battery !

Just because it has live view doesn’t mean it is purpose-built for the many advantages mirrorless technology can offer. If you don’t need them, keep the D780. But if you do…
Each camera has a unique blend of features. There is no perfect camera, but there is one that can work for you. We have to be smart consumers and weigh dozens of factors, now.
