Why mirrorless when.....

My question is....."Why should I pour all that money into mirrorless when I can shoot in live view with any of my three Nikon DSLRs? Just this last week I had my D780 with and purposely took images using live view. At the same time have been doing some video testing with it as well.

Here we go again. LOL
With mirrorless you have an EVF that allows you to see the effect of all your exposure, settings, filters, plus a histogram, BEFORE you take your photo. No DSLR OVF can ever do that.
In Live view on a DSLR your mirror has to be locked up, so you have no viewfinder at all to look through. Also Live View in a DSLR is at a lower resolution than looking through a mirrorless EVF and your live view in a DSLR is difficult to see in bright sunlight, unlike looking through a mirrorless EVF.
There have been countless threads and hundreds of pages on DSLR vs Mirrorless in UHH. There are so many things that mirrorless can do that NO DSLR will ever be physically able to do.
I wont go back over that, but you certainly can do a search here in UHH and read about it all.
Use what you wish and be happy. I shot DSLRs for decades as a pro and then made the move to mirrorless and would never go back again to ANY DSLR.

I don’t know about you, but in direct sunlight I see better using a viewfinder than in LV - I also tend to hold the camera more stably.

I believe that there are some things that a mirrorless can do a little better or easier. But a lot of folks haven't learned what the best DSLRs can do. For instance, my D500, D810, and D850 can all display an exposure corrected preview if you know how. I'm sure your D780 can, as well. Focus limitations are way overblown. I've had no problem obtaining focus all the way back to my D200. In some difficult situations.
Mirrorless cameras are huge upgrades over beginner and consumer DSLRs. The expansion of capabilities from the best DSLRs is much more incremental. And by the way...this is a legitimate discussion to have before spending several thousand dollars...for a camera.

As I said, use what you like and be happy. I choose all the competitive advantages and performance advantages of mirrorless. Cheers and best to you.
