With all the problems going on in the world and especially in America today, all the negativity, the BILLIONS spent on political campaigns, the hate within America's political system, people are offended by the customs and traditions of another country having a party and a good time! Is it just me or does the idea of "Royalty" rub others wrong as well? How is it that in today's world of political correctness and equality for all can someone's birthright provide such wealth, privilege, respect, and loyalty? These folks are just human and the need for royalty has long since expired in today's world. It simply amazes me that they make such a fuss over all this and wonder why the whole concept hasn't been completely rejected by the common folk at least in a so called democratic society. Anyway, it's much ado about nothing in my opinion and I actually find it to be rather offensive as well. I would be interested in other's opinions about it here.

You say you would be interested in other's opinions about it, okay here is my opinion. I find your tradition of gaudy political campaigns outrages with the money spent to hoodwink the common voter into believing one person (the President) has the power to make a country great again! But I will give you one greatness of America: over 200 mass shootings in less than 128 days. That is a record to be proud of! Just my opinion of course.

Finding something "rather offensive" doesn't mean one is "offended" or upset by it??????
If it doesn't bother someone, why would they make that comment???
Then what does "rather offensive" mean?

"Rather" offensive means "somewhat" offensive which means "partially" offensive not fully offensive. I reckon he made the comment for the reasons he stated. "Much ado about nothing" doesn't sound to me like he was "so concerned" about it, just somewhat. Since it's all pomp and ceremony it IS, as he said, "much ado about NOTHING."

However, since it seems to celebrate a ruling class over the public, by those picked solely on superiority of one class based on heredity over the commoner's, it is "rather" offensive to those that believe in power to the people rather than the aristocracy. It would be far more than "rather" offensive if it was not just pomp and ceremony. Worth fighting a revolution over.

For comparison look at the outrageous amounts of money spent on American political campaigns. And how do poor politicians become millionaires after one term in office? Just another custom of the culture?

“Citizens United” makes it easy for a company, organization, or even yourself to buy a politician

Here is a quote from a Brit on another forum to put it into perspective:

"Apparently the whole coronation affair will cost around £100 million. Which sounds like a lot, but…

It’s about £1.50 for every man, woman and child in the UK. About the same as a litre of petrol or half a pint of beer.

It’s about £3.60 for every household in the UK. That’s 21 minutes work for someone on the National Minimum Wage.

So it’s not really breaking the backs of the taxpayers.

Government spending is about £1,000 billion per year so it’s equivalent to about 52 minutes of that, assuming government spending is level 24×7. If we take government spending as occurring Mon-Fri, 37 hours per week, it is only about 11½ minutes.

A coronation only happens when a monarch dies. If we had a president, an inauguration would be every 3 or 4 or 5 years. Barack Obama’s inauguration cost $170 million; Trump’s was $200 million."

Kind of like idolizing sports figures and actors, isn't it? Neither makes any sense.

Oh, so just a little bit of offensive is not really offensive.......

Is there an offensiveness scale?, like 1 to 10? 10 being REALLY offensive and 1 being only slightly offensive?
I always thought it either was or wasn't.

I guess the same with "happy" (as well as others)... Are you happy, somewhat happy, really happy, REALLY happy,
or REALLY, really happy.....

UK population 60 million. Cost of this fantastic display of tradition which seemed to raise the mood of the majority of the Nation? About 120 million pounds. That’s 2 pounds per person.

Edit. Ooops. I see someone else said slightly different figures. Built the point is the same🤓

A coronation is not included in my household budget, certainly. But putting it in perspective, it doesn't happen as often in the UK as it does in the USA. The last coronation was 70 years ago. (Of course a long interval is probably followed by a short interval). I haven't gone through the calculation but I would estimate from my vague recollection of history that the average time between coronations is on the order of 20 years or more. Our presidential installation happens every 4 years (even if the president doesn't change), and the budget is larger.

I don't live there. I don't pay taxes there. It's none of my business. If the citizens there don't want to pay for the "Royalty" any longer, they'll do something about it. It hasn't happened yet. It may at some point, but it has nothing to do with me.

Boy did you ever hit the nail on the proverbial head! Our new “Woke” America is toppling statues, rewriting history, causing billions of dollars in rioting losses and this guy is upset with the British having a major celebration.

Maybe we could ship a couple boatloads of these anarchist liberals over to the UK and they can start destroying the statues of "Colonial" Britian, like Cromwell, Churchill, Queen Victoria, Adm Nelson, Robert Burns and many others. In addition they can change the names and even burn some of the more famous sites, Royal Albert Hall, Tower of London, Stonehenge, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Castle and many more sites that were all part of "Colonial Britian." At the current direction the US is headed, its looks like the UK will be around after this country is gone...Cheers...
