The ONLY batteries I have ever had fail have been non-OEM batteries. OEM batteries do age, but I've got some that are over 10 years old that still work well. I had some non-OEM batteries start swelling to the point that they wouldn't fit in the camera. Having them swell like that in camera would be a big issue.

I am strictly OEM until you can't get OEM any more.

I bought Wasabi batteries for my Panasonic Lumix LX10, more than a few years ago. I bought them more for the charger they came with, as Panasonic didn't provide one. All are holding up well, even though the camera stays in my car 24/7.

I could’ve written the exact same reply about the Wasabis and charger for my LUMIX ZS70, which is also my SUV and bicycle camera.

Look for Wasabi batteries instead. We use them without issues. We have six for our Lumix GH4 and GH5 bodies.

I agree with using OEM batteries. Just on the outside chance that a battery "goes bad" and gets stuck in the camera, or damages the camera, that diminishes the opportunity for push-back from the manufacturer that non-OEM batteries void any cooperation on getting things repaired under warranty, or at all.

The few dollars one saves may cost more in the long run.

I think you get what you pay for. I will only use Nikon batteries for my D5300. Same for my Canon Powershot G-15-- the off brands just don't hold up, so it's Canon batteries for that one, too.

Inspect a battery after every charge.
I’ve never had one “suddenly” swell.

It is a good practice to charge batteries outside of a device if they are removable and you have a charger. Some cameras now allow you to charge batteries from a USB source. I would rather let heat dissipate into air, instead of my camera electronics.

Another good practice is to NOT store your digital camera with a battery in it. This is likely to drain the battery over time, and if it should happen to swell, you will have a useless battery and a useless camera when you want to use it again.

For storage > two weeks, it's desirable to deplete the battery to around 50% charge. Top it off before use.

I have used Promaster batteries in my Canon cameras, currently R5 and R7 but also previous models for at least ten years and have never had a problem. Performance is the same as Canon batteries.

I too recommend Wasabi batteries.
Never had any problems with mine and they seem to last as long as OEM batteries.

I've never heard of "BM Batteries".

Wasabi batteries are good. So are Watson, Jupio, and a few others.

True, but if you have Amazon Prime you’ll probably get them faster and shipping might be cheaper.

They can’t legally void your warranty for non-OEM batteries, only if the problem was caused by the battery. And even then they usually want you to send the camera sans battery for warranty repair so they have no idea what battery you used.

I've used Wasabi batteries in my 3 Canon cameras and have never had an issue. Find they last as long as the Canon batteries at a much less cost. I date my batteries and after 2-3 years of use replace them. A few years ago I sent one of my cameras in for repair to Canon, they never ask if I was using another brand battery...

I tried off brand Wasabi batteries for the great American eclipse and during my practice runs where I had to change batteries I had an extremely hard time removing the battery due to swelling. No more off brand for me. Camera was mounted on a telescope that had to be carefully aligned to track the sun over a course of several hours and the battery exchange had to be done blind. I'm just grateful that this occurred during a practice run and not the actual eclipse.
Thousands of dollars spent on equipment and travel so trying to save a few dollars on batteries doesn't make sense to me. I learned my lesson. I'm NOT saying an OEM battery would never fail but for a few dollars not risking them.
