My friend, who is extremely talented, keeps waiting for the Unicorn Z8. Is very unhappy with his Z6ii and just will not spend the money to get a Z9. He is in his 70s and will wait 2, 3, 5 years for the Z8.
I can't explain it. Says he does not want the Z9 because he doesn't want the grip. (???)
We think it is due to budget but what the heck is it worth to wait years.

Plus the wining that my C, L, N, O, P, S is better than your camera. Just like in cooking...It's the chef that makes the meal not the stove or pots & pans..

I grew up with "whining" (def. 2), so I'll stick with it.

From Dictionary,com:
adjective
1. uttering a nasal, complaining cry, as from peevishness, discontent, uneasiness, etc.: If there’s one sound that makes me want to tear my ears off, it’s the sound of a whining tomcat. Our daughter has grown from a whining child on the first day of playgroup to one who asks to go even on Saturdays.

2. complaining in a petulant, self-pitying way: Those whining people who blame everyone and think everyone is against them need to grow up.

I suppose it depends on the source material.......

Isn't etymology fun- the study and origin of WORDS? I was raised by my grandmother who spoke Yiddish and the word for whining/complaining is "KEVTCHING" and a person who constantly complains is called a "KEVTCH". The problem for me is I sometimes confuse"Etymology" with "Entomology"- the study of insects- bugs, roaches, ants, flies, etc.

I just don't shoot that much film. I use Portra 160 most of the time, and yes, "sparingly." My last real shooting was back in the early 1990s, when I visited Montreal and Quebec City. I had bought a second-hand Nikon F4S which worked swimmingly considering that I lacked any kind of instruction manual and used auto settings for much of my shooting.

Nothing is truly usable forever. Digital even so. Film degrades if left in poor conditions, but if in a cool spot with good quality coverage, it's been great. I have slides from Kodachrome 25 that are at least forty years old and still look great. Those were the days.

Sensor size. With the current technology, it's no longer an issue as it was in the past.

I know I paid more than $3.26 a roll for the same film in 1980 that costs $12.00 a roll today. But I'll take a $12.00 64GB SDXC card over a roll of film, today.

No matter the endeavor, Complaining Never Helps.
1. No one cares about your problems
2. It never Helps
3. It takes Time away from actually doing useful stuff.
4.No useful thing, done to a high level is ever 'easy', accepting that fact is useful progress toward any goal.

Not everyone needs the most current, latest and greatest, which many people make it sound like it is so worth the $1,200 cumulative outlay. Many simply have to have it, so it's "worth it" to them. SO worth it, and can also justify it. The same as others can justify NOT getting a subscription.
It really depends on the level of importance to the individual.

They, as well as camera manufacturers, love having people who have to have the latest and greatest. Keeps them in business.
Some I'll bet, even think they might miss out on something if they don't.

No, you're not the boss, but I'll bet you, as well as others here, would love it if everyone followed in your footsteps.

You asked a question. He answered it. Basically the same answer I would have given if it hadn’t already been answered. At the end of his answer he even said that you should do whatever works for you. Now you’re trying to spin it like we’re trying to make you use what we use. What I see is the opposite. When someone asks about software and PS/LR is mentioned there always you people that grumble about the cost. Instead why not just be happy with whatever alternative you chose.

Been covering top chefs for decades as a photojournalist, many you wouldn't know the names, some you might know their names like Wolfgang Puck ,Bobby Flay, Ellen Yin, Georges Perrier. And they overwhelmingly use the best pots and pans, and prefer the finer control with gas stoves over electric. So it DOES make a difference for many pros that demand the performance of the best tools, to make their best creations.

Cheers and best to you.
