USPS is bad here, too. One postal worker was caught on camera stealing a package that had been delivered by another delivery service. Did they fire her? Nope, moved her to a different route.

The USPS informed mail isn't accurate either. It told me I had a package of medicine arriving and later that day it was listed as delivered. I called the post office and after the (very nice) person on the phone searched he discovered it had been delivered 4 days earlier, which I did receive. So why did the system that showed the package delivered on Friday suddenly become an item not delivered, then delivered days later?

I have very little actual mail. All my bills have been converted to paperless but there are some things that still have to come USPS. It was never the greatest system in the world but it is awful now.

So, you're complaining about a shipment that was indeed delivered, and you had in your possession, just because the web site was inaccurate.

No, I'm complaining because my package was not delivered. The USPS employee claimed that the business (where my packages are sent) was closed, and according to him/her, it was 9:30 yesterday (Saturday) morning. The only problem was that the business was NOT closed, it opened at 8AM, and had four employees there. Once again, an employee of USPS has lied, and caught yet again.

Pointing out that even their tracking system is flawed. USPS errors that use to occur "once in a blue moon" are now much more common. It will not surprise me if, in the near future, everyone will have to keep a very close watch on the tracking of mail and packages.

WAIT. Reading Tamsey in Texas, reminded me to tell you all to NOT mail any checks, ever!! Several months ago, I was introduced to "Washed Checks". I wrote a check for $110.00 to an ankle service, and learned that they never received it. Then my bank informed me that I ""wrote"" a check for $4,200. Someone got their hands on that check I wrote, and put into the USPS system. They "washed" the payee and the dollar amounts, up to $4,200. My bank is the one that caught it. They told me to come in, and they will close all of my accounts, including credit and debits cards. Then they would open new accounts for me, to include new debit and credit cards. My bank is so good that before we even completed that process right in the bank, they were notified that the Fraud Department has deposited $4,200 back into my account. They then told me they experience "washed check" at the rate of one a week. As a result, we refuse to write another check, EVER. And yes, there is a way to get around those companies that want to be paid by check.

So, don't write another check. Protect yourself.

Good advice! There’s really no need to ever write a check anymore. All payments can be done online, or via credit/debit cards. You can also send someone cash electronically. I haven’t been inside a bank in years. If I need cash (which is maybe 2-3 times a year) I use an ATM, or a debit card withdrawal at my local grocery store.

Where I live in Southern California, Amazon has installed a "hub" (an array of locked boxes). This hub serves the defined local community with Amazon deliveries. When a delivery occurs, the Amazon system notifies the recipient by text message with a code for entering into the hub. A door opens to a box containing the delivered product. So far, I have yet to experience a significant bug in this system.

I have an Amazon Prime account that includes same-day and next-day delivery of some items.

Both UPS and USPS are excellent where I live. Also Amazon deliveries. Oftentimes products that I order get delivered the same day or the next from Amazon.

In my opinion it's all about the delivery person, not the company. There are lots of stories that contradict each other. I do believe that the incompetence is protected by their unions. We can definitely get by without any one of them.

I can pay my property tax and ISD tax online but they charge a credit card fee. So every year I write a 2 checks to pay them.

I have a friend in Wisconsin that lives on a rural road, the mail person has more excuses than a priest caught at midnight in a nun’s convent why they couldn’t deliver his mail.

I live in the country and have few delivery problems but have noticed that packages delivered by USPS often show delivered in Amazon's site but not delivered until the next day. I think USPS is playing a game with Amazon trying to make it look like they are always on time when they are not.

Since there is now a discussion about UPS, let me give you just one example of how bad USPS is in St. Louis.

I have all my packages delivered to an independent owned hardware store, hence avoiding Porch Pirates. One package to be delivered Saturday by USPS was never delivered. They claim the store was closed during their attempted delivery at 9:30. Interesting since the store was opened at 8AM, and staffed by four employees.

That is typical of USPS here. Maybe it is better where you live.

In my world of central Florida here is how they rank for us (We live in the country & get lots of deliveries, so this is real info).

Best to worst: No. 1 (tie) USPS & UPS, always good, no issues.
No. 2 Amazon Always good now, sometimes to wrong house early on, but very good now, almost into No. 1 group.
No. 3 FEDEX (I used to call them "FEDUP" but they have improved).
No. 4 LazerShip OK now but horrible early on.
Separate category:
No. 5 Various private local or trucking companies - seem to do well (local deliveries) and trucking outfits seem to be very good with larger items like wheel/tires/large TV/furniture/etc.

To be fair: House is set back, wooded driveway (100 ft. in) gate with security (driveway) monitor, Video when coming thru gate into yard. Signs (two places showing address, mailbox and next to driveway entrance), beware of dog (nowdays it's a 3.75 LB Chihuahua indoors - LOL) and signs for No Trespassing & Warning/Video Surveilance/monitored on the gate (always closed but not locked).

USPS & UPS, always on time, always delivered to my house and not somewhere else, rarely any damaged packages, I know I can count on them both.
Amazon does a fine job, missed or wrong address very rare now, I can count on them.
FEDEX, has improved a lot in the last year, I used to dread them prior, but not so bad anymore.
LazerShip has also improved, almost all packages were trouble early on.

My $.02

Well let's compare FedEx with USPS. I live in a large apartment bldg and when you have a package delivered by FedEx they do not deliver tge package to the apartment they leave it at the front entrance door. Had a $4,000 camera stolen and FedEx had to send me a check and the same driver is still employed by FedEx.

This is common practice although they leave behind a locked door. Check to see if there is any video surveillance of the package drop area. If you are in a larger building do you have a doorman? If so will they accept packages for you?

Delivery is always iffy, but it works 99% of the time, at least for me. It's that 1% that's infuriating. It usually comes down to the one individual who has the package, rather than the company that pays his salary.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed but my wife told me about the newest scam re the USPS.
Somehow the "bad guys" are able to retrieve your mail/checks out of the corner box and "wash" the checks. That means a clean check to which they can enter a new amount and name. It's actually happened in our town several times recently. They suggest you only drop your mail off at the Post Office. Then of course you have to hope an employee working there isn't part of the scam!

I mailed a letter to my bank which is about twelve miles away, ten day later it finally came in their door. I'm paperless to and have all my bills on auto pay never pay a late fee again.

You're lucky!!! For me, it's one to three months!!! That's from the US to Baguio City, which is a city of some 350,00 - and double that during holidays - only about 150 miles north of Manila, and on the same island. (And that's if it gets here, at all.)
