Couldn’t agree with you more. Our postal service is spotty at best. There are days with no mail and when I went to Florida and put a block on the mail the mail was left on our front steps. Horrible service!

Have you considered having a friend or neighbor collect your mail while you are gone?

When my neighbor goes out of town I collect her mail and put it inside; I'm her kitty sitter, also. If I have something important coming and won't be home she will watch for the delivery and collect it.

Our Fed Ex and UPS drivers know we are friends and will go to the other person if one isn't there and a signature is needed.

I agree, I live in WestLosAngeles. The USPS in my zone is absolutely the worst.
Most of the delivery carriers can't read, even with clearly posted signs in RED.
I moved my POB to the base of my deck, I live in a 3 story house, I live in 2nd & 3rd floors, as I am disabled, my deck stairs are 100' from the street, the managers refused to deliver mail their. Got 72 pieces of mail 10 days later and 4 wrong addresses. Finally, moved to speak with a higher up, got a letter from my DR. about my condition, had to present it to them, and finally got sporadic delivery.
A couple of delivery persons are really helpful though.
This HAS been going on since 2017.

Since there is now a discussion about UPS, let me give you just one example of how bad USPS is in St. Louis.

I have all my packages delivered to an independent owned hardware store, hence avoiding Porch Pirates. One package to be delivered Saturday by USPS was never delivered. They claim the store was closed during their attempted delivery at 9:30. Interesting since the store was opened at 8AM, and staffed by four employees.

That is typical of USPS here. Maybe it is better where you live.

I write in defense of USPS. I ordered a gift for my grandson, who lives in an adjacent state. I had previously made other purchases from this company but always had items shipped to my home. The company placed a “SHIP TO” name and address form on the computer screen, and I filled it in with my grandson’s info. Then they asked me to fill in the billing address (my address), and I did so. Then THEY erroneously placed my billing info into the shipping info. I retyped all the shipping info but overlooked the incorrect 2-digit state abbreviation (I did correct the 9-digit zip code, however.) The USPS made the delivery to the correct house even though the address showed MY 2-digit state code, NOT my grandson’s 2-digit state code. They apparently gave preference to the 9-digit zip code. (Out of curiosity I “googled” the city name, and it appeared in only two states, both of which were adjacent to my state.) USPS could have attempted a delivery to my state without success or even sent it to my home address because of the contradictory information; instead they delivered to the address I wanted them to even though the address indicated the wrong state. *********************************************************************************************On another note, I made a recent purchase for myself on a Monday. The seller emailed me that they shipped via FedEx. Then FedEx emailed me that I should expect delivery in 5 to 8 business days. On Wednesday FedEx said they would deliver on Friday. On Friday FedEx said they would deliver on Saturday. On Monday FedEx delivered.

A delivery delay I can understand, having been in the FedEx delivery driver's shoes. There are lots of things that can delay a delivery. One thing to be aware of is it depends on which branch of FedEx you are talking about, too. There is Express and Ground, among others. One has company drivers while the other branch is Owner-Operators. My gripe with them is that I receive monthly medicine shipments that, due to federal requirements, require an Adult signature or it can't be delivered. In this case, the property gate was locked (partly my error) so the driver, rather than anyone calling, just tossed it under the gate where the package was in full view of anyone driving or walking by, and in full view of any number of kids going to the school bus stop 20 feet away. This medicine is dangerous in the wrong hands, especially kids. The package remained there in the rain until I drove out there the next day (we were at our other house due to an emergency.

My neighbor told me, a little while ago, that in her mail today was a Christmas card that she mailed to a friend in mid-December. It was returned as undeliverable, person moved left no forwarding address. She called the friend today to tell her and to find out if she had moved but the friend did not move and is at the same address where she has lived for many years. My neighbor read her the address and it is correct.

I had to laugh knowing I was going to add another USPS story to the thread.

You have to wonder where this card has been for the last 3 months? I did look at the envelope and both the address who it was going to and the return address are perfectly legible.

USPS screws up again!! LOL!!!

Good morning. From experience, I can suggest making some payments with a money-order -- for example, to the IRS or to almost any other payee who desires a secure payment.

I buy my money-orders from the financial center at my local Walmart. It costs $1.00. I keep any receipts plus the invoice or statement documenting the transaction, stapled together, just in case. You will thank yourself if the situation arises wherein you have to offer proof of your payment.

My 2 cents.

WAIT. Reading Tamsey in Texas, reminded me to tell you all to NOT mail any checks, ever!! Several months ago, I was introduced to "Washed Checks". I wrote a check for $110.00 to an ankle service, and learned that they never received it. Then my bank informed me that I ""wrote"" a check for $4,200. Someone got their hands on that check I wrote, and put into the USPS system. They "washed" the payee and the dollar amounts, up to $4,200. My bank is the one that caught it. They told me to come in, and they will close all of my accounts, including credit and debits cards. Then they would open new accounts for me, to include new debit and credit cards. My bank is so good that before we even completed that process right in the bank, they were notified that the Fraud Department has deposited $4,200 back into my account. They then told me they experience "washed check" at the rate of one a week. As a result, we refuse to write another check, EVER. And yes, there is a way to get around those companies that want to be paid by check.

So, don't write another check. Protect yourself.
