“Amazon's Zuckerberg is doing slash and burn, cutting 24% of all employees in the last year. To him we photographers were not important enough to service, even with the premier content provider. “

Zuckerberg????? Did Facebook buy DPR from Amazon and nobody noticed?

That's too bad, I liked the banter on the site during questions and reviews.

I first started reading the site 25 years ago when Brit, Phil Askey ran it. It was a brilliant idea, and turned into one of the best sources of information about cameras and photo gear you could find. As revenue dwindled over the last few years, it did lose a bit of luster, but it is still a primary source of information.

I wonder if anyone will pick up the slack? I also wonder what the team of Chris and Jordan, the DP Review video creators, will do. They are based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and used to run The Camera Store TV channel. Their work is fair, balanced, measured, insightful, and detailed. I hope they land another gig or start their own YouTube entity.

UPDATE: A quick view of the DP Review YouTube channel indicates that Chris and Jordan have something in the works for their own thing... I'm sure it will be as good as usual.

Maybe they should team up with Tony Northrup who already has a good platform and build a company based on the DP platform. Some people do not like Tony but that seems to come from the fact he is a little quirky at times. His knowledge is very good and if he would let Chris and Jordan do the heavy lifting on new cameras and lenses and concentrate his input on training, and other areas to be reviewed like flash, PP programs, etc. it could be a good website.

Just recently, its not been so regular.

I am so sad about this news. I am a "camera junkie" and this was the best place to gather info. My only hope is that someone else decides to fill in that gap. But all the information lost there is such a sad waste.

That's a shame. It was always a good source of reliable, detailed information.

Unfortunately, when one company buys another, they shut it down if they don't see huge profits, taking whatever resources they can from the company.

I actually don't read their reviews anymore after Amazon bought it. The reviews now are short and have more to do with opinions than data.

Sad to hear. I used to be a more active participant there, on the Canon and Fuji forums, and still use it to curb any GAS attacks. Yes, that's a neat new camera, but all the extra stuff it does above my current equipment is not worth 4 digits, at least to me.

At least on my Dell laptop running Windows 10, you can pull up the review, hit "Ctrl P" and then save the review as a Word document or PDF. I do have an older version of Acrobat and a current subscription to MS Office, and I don't know if that makes a difference in the options available.

Here's what I got for one of their current reviews.

I never knew that. Thanks for the info!

Never used them, never needed them. Too bad though, I guess.

It is your loss of all the information that even the top pros around the world have loved from them. There is NO photographer that couldn't benefit from all they have provided since the late 1990"s, even you. You just dont realize it.

Here Tony Northrup talks about their significance and the loss.

AMAZON DELETED DPREVIEW. Seriously.

I always referred to their camera reviews before I bought a new camera. Sorry to see them go.

And DPReview has (had) a great tool that allowed you to view a high resolution image and compare what the same image looked like with different cameras - side by side - with up to four cameras. You could select the camera, select RAW or JPG and set ISO and then view and zoom-in to a section of a large test image. This allowed you to compare things like resolution, noise, etc. of different cameras. I found it to be extremely useful.

They are so much more than just reviews, and they do both short and long reviews, photo forums, discussion groups, question and answer sessions, and much more. They were the gold standard, even for the top pros.
