Apparently, Amazon could not make it work.
I am beyond shocked that this is happening. Link to follow.
But the site isn't any good after Amazon took over. It used to have a lot of information not any more.
Sad... I like their information.
Well that's four links for reviews of the cameras I have that will go away. Too bad they are not in document form, ie. PDF... I'd save them.
Maybe the site wasn't as good after Amazon took over, but I still found it good. This really sux.
I first started reading the site 25 years ago when Brit, Phil Askey ran it. It was a brilliant idea, and turned into one of the best sources of information about cameras and photo gear you could find. As revenue dwindled over the last few years, it did lose a bit of luster, but it is still a primary source of information.
I wonder if anyone will pick up the slack? I also wonder what the team of Chris and Jordan, the DP Review video creators, will do. They are based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and used to run The Camera Store TV channel. Their work is fair, balanced, measured, insightful, and detailed. I hope they land another gig or start their own YouTube entity.
UPDATE: A quick view of the DP Review YouTube channel indicates that Chris and Jordan have something in the works for their own thing... I'm sure it will be as good as usual.

I never felt DiaPerReview had much objectivity and credibility... although I did enjoy watching Chris Nichols' reviews on YouTube.

Too FF-centric, much like other camera forums we are familiar with...

Interesting. Never noticed.
But then I'm not keeping score.
It may not have been all things to all people, but it is one more resource we won't have and that's too bad.

That's pretty close to my take on it. It has been the largest source of news and reviews and specs and test images that most of us have relied upon. The DPR forums were always full of garbage, IMHO, but most social media are like that to a degree. NextDoor.com comes to mind, locally. But even there, there are some great things happening.
Will someone fill the void? Who knows...
