DST never bothered me and I enjoyed the extra daylight for golf.

I don't care what time it is I'm retired. I go to bed when I'm tired, wake up in the morning, take the dog for a walk, and eat when I'm hungry.

Old Indian saying. Only the white man could think that cutting the bottom foot of a blanket off and sewing it to the top would make a longer blanket.

Stan

There are definite financial advantages to businesses that can remain open longer and make more money during their busiest times if they do most business in the evening and daylight extends further into the evening.

Lots of research showing that switching back and forth between standard and daylight time is detrimental to health.
Also children suffer in morning darkness when switching to daylight time, having to wake up in the dark and often walk to school or wait at school bus stops in the dark.

It's actually a myth that daylight "saving" time benefits farmers.
Nowadays it is primarily restaurants, bars, clubs and casinos who benefit from having more daylight in the evening as opposed to morning.

Unfortunately, the U.S. senate is pushing to make daylight saving time permanent.
Which is the opposite way to go.

Yes, it is definitely no good, but I'm sure the senators have good reasons to make it permanent.

Isn't that what Fayle posted earlier in the thread?

At any rate, DST was not proposed to make the day longer, but as a means of providing more daylight at the end of the day, which would permit people to burn fewer candles to illuminate their homes. Benjamin Franklin, 1784.

...Now that I think about it though, I think a few countries have their time zones offset from a whole hour. Iran and Pakistan use the half hour.
And Australia.

Broken Hill is in New South Wales, but uses Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) which is 30 minutes behind the rest of the state. Eucla in Western Australia is 45 minutes ahead of the rest of the state. It has its own time zone called Australian Central Western Standard Time (ACWST).

It must be in a committee for 10 years before discussing it. Then it has to be a bi-partisan resolution from Congress. Then it has to be out again for further research from the Farmers and children and then brought up to the regular voter who must be a US citizen and not an illegal. Once it has been approved by each State in the Union then it goes back to Congress for further study. This process has been going on for my life so I don't see it changed in my lifetime.

My understanding and correct me if wrong, is that during the Nixon administration, it was determined that daylight savings would lower the gasoline costs due to changes in driving habits and it was instituted as a gas/cost saving policy.

Instituted nationally in 1966.
Done by countries previously during The Great War ... to save electricity.

DST is the equivalent of cutting a foot off the end of a rope and sewing it onto the other end in order to make it longer. Preferably, I would like to have daylight when I get up in the morning instead of when I go to bed at night!

I wonder how daylight savings time affects the folks living in northern Alaska where there are six months of daylight and six months of darkness?

Half the state runs on alcohol...not sure they even participate or notice.
