We are on daylight saving time today. I wonder if anybody knows if the time will be back to standard time in the fall or it would stay this way for good.
I hope it goes back to standard time.

Lots of research showing that switching back and forth between standard and daylight time is detrimental to health.
Also children suffer in morning darkness when switching to daylight time, having to wake up in the dark and often walk to school or wait at school bus stops in the dark.

It's actually a myth that daylight "saving" time benefits farmers.
Nowadays it is primarily restaurants, bars, clubs and casinos who benefit from having more daylight in the evening as opposed to morning.

Unfortunately, the U.S. senate is pushing to make daylight saving time permanent.
Which is the opposite way to go.

One quote: The bill would allow Arizona and Hawaii, which do not observe daylight saving time, to remain on standard time.

I wish people would wake up to the fact that we could "split the difference" and be rid of the "problem."

daylight savings time doesn't really save any time still only 24 hours in a day. These time changes mess up my sleep schedules 2 times a year and it takes about a week to get adjusted to the "new" time. I don't care which congress chooses but pick a time and leave it there.

That depends on what state you are in.

Stick with standard time - if you’re worried about the kids going to the bus stop in the dark, change the time the school starts and leave the rest of the world alone.

Today on the radio they said that the first full day of daylight savings time the incidence of heart attacks goes up 24%. So missing one hour of sleep causes heart attacks. So does going back on standard time decrease heart attacks? What about when you cross into a new time zone to the west? Does that increase heart attacks? Talk about a lot of BS!

Here they implemented daylight saving so that in summer people had the benefit of more daylight in the evening hours. Nothing to do with farmers.

It is one of those things that is so complicated that our government, either party, can not handle. We, in contrast could use two sentences to make it a law. The world agrees with Greenwich time and zones. But then again!! when we were to go metric, 1975, and be part of the metric world it almost happened... but politicians had problems dividing by 10. Now we are with Zimbabwean and even they are changing... as the song says and the mouse stands alone.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_Conversion_Act

I did a simple calculation with 14 day weeks... another with 8 day weeks. That way when told take one of these every other day, that is easy.

So whether or not daylight saving time becomes permanent has not been decided yet. Am I correct? That is why I post the question. I am not interested in whether it's the right or wrong thing to do as it would be a very long thread.

I read a good article about this recently. People have disliked the time changes since it was first implemented. The problem has been for years that the politicians did not think this was worth their attention so nothing was ever done. In the last few years, this changed and many politicians took notice of people's dislike and started legislation to stop the changes.

However, what they found was that, just like you read in the opinions here, people were divided almost equally as to which time they wanted. Some wanted daylight savings and others wanted standard time. So politicians were put into that zone they feared the most - wrong whatever decision they made. No matter which time standard was chosen about 50% of the voters would be mad at them. So doing what politicians do best, they did nothing.

As with many other decisions in life, there are no perfect solutions. Both standard and daylight savings times have advantages and disadvantages. Pick one and go with it.

It has not and probably will not be for some time for the reasons in my other post.
