Exactly, you'd think they'd just answer the mail from the OP. Must be a slow day in their lives.

You need to say more. Like why? Like what lenses do you shoot? Like what subjects do you shoot? Like what format JPEG / RAW do you shoot? Like how much do you want to spend? Like why do you have GAS?

The UHH community is mostly populated with a bunch of retirees with more time and money than sense. Keeping up with this bunch of Joneses is a fool's errand. If you let the UHH community spend your money, nothing you have will ever be good enough to their standards.

Digital cameras are plenty good enough now, especially anything released since the resolution standard reached 24MP across the industry. You should be worrying about what you can do with your camera, not whatever newest model anyone else is bragging about. Unless your 24MP DX camera is physically broken, it's more likely than not you have not exhausted all the capabilities and possibilities of this model.

CHG_CANON is dead on. And for what it's worth, I have over 250,000 clicks on one of my D7200s, and over 150,000 on the other. I also use a D750, and prefer it over the D7200, ONLY because it has both a horizontal and vertical indicator available in Live View, where as the D7200 has only the horizontal. I shoot real estate, so that tool saves me time editing.

I have only read the first page of comments, which does not say what you photo or what you want take pictures of in the future. Assuming that you are happy with your present results, I find it disturbing that you only have one D7200? Once the price dropped for my preference I bought four alike. Each sits ready with a different lens. But the main purpose is that I can risk any body and lose or destroy it, and still have a camera I am familiar with for the important photo events. So far one camera is dying from rain; at my age my plan will work. BUY ANOTHER D7200!

Wow…. Sounds boring to me. My opinion. Inside the box thinking works for you…. An artist uses many brushes.

....but needs to use at least one of them well to be recognized.
I have over dozen functioning digital cameras with plenty of variations, but only one model I trust enough to use when I have promised pictures. Works well for me and my clients.

It's still not clear why you want to upgrade your camera.

Nor is it clear what you want to do about lenses; do you want to be able to use them, how many are FX vs DX, are you going to want new lenses?

So, in general, these are the typical upgrade paths:

Nikon D500 - PRO: faster frame rate and focus, better for action. CON: uses the Nikon Pro interface for software and accessories.

Nikon D850 - PRO: lots more features, great for FX lenses, enough MP for DX lenses. CON: uses the Nikon Pro interface for software and accessories, not really that good for DX lenses

Nikon APS-C Mirrorless - No Nikon mirrorless APS-C camera features in body stabilization or provides full support for typical mirrorless features. I don't recommend any of them.

Nikon Z7II - PRO: Lots of mirrorless features including stabilization, enough MP for DX lenses. CON: Expensive

Nikon Z9 - PRO: Lots of mirrorless features, great for action, enough MP for DX lenses. CON: uses the Nikon Pro interface for software and accessories, expensive, large and heavy.

If you want the best in mirrorless APS-C cameras, then look elsewhere: Canon, Fuji, Sony. You may be able to adapt your lenses to Canon or Sony, but you will want to upgrade to native lenses as well.

By "Pro interface for software and accessories," what are you talking about? The 10 pin connector on the front of the camera? What makes you think that is a disadvantage? The professional user interface of these cameras is actually the best reason for moving to one of them.

Thanx,
You are right, I have 25000 shutter count now, and the d7200 has been a good camara,
there is a lot of life in it ,
whatever my reason for upgrading is, just curious on what next upgrade should be,

I updated from a D7200, which I still have, to a D850. Call it GAS if you want. I had been wanting to go full frame for awhile and since many are jumping on the mirrorless bandwagon, D850's are available at some very attractive prices.

My D850 has a low shutter count and unless I have a strong GAS attack should last me for years to come. Something to consider though is lenses if you go FX. Something else to consider is computer limitations. The D850 files are huge compared to the D7200 and I suspect many newer cameras are the same. I knew this all going in but was willing to make the jump so now I will upgrade my computer. Something I needed to do anyway.

The learning curve for me wasn't so sharp going from the D7200 to the D850. Mirrorless? One day perhaps if I decide to. For now I'm satisfied but we all know that can change. 😀

It’s a change, so new accessories would have to be bought. And new user interface learned.

Only full frame and only mirrorless and only Canon hardware…he's gone on and on about that and how superior that combination makes one and how you're not a real photographer if you don't have all of that. He ignores the fact that for some people a DX or even a M4/3 is a better option…and it's been quite clear that he looks down on any 'amateur' that uses anything less than what he states unequivocally is "better". Sounds like bragging to me.

And it's really a shame because he's actually obviously a really smart guy and asks good questions to amplify needs in response to questions…but the elitist attitude can tend to turn people off. Sarcasm is a nice change of pace sometimes…and the advantages of full frame or mirrorless are true…for some situations but not all…and all his Canon pushing doesn't make them better, just better for him and in his opinion. Brand of equipment is irrelevant to making a good photo…there's a guy on another forum who espouses the 80/4 rule…80% of a good photo comes from 4 inches behind the viewfinder…and the remaining 20% is readily achievable by even consumer level crop sensor hardware from any of the vendors. Brand bashing gets nobody anywhere.
Only full frame and only mirrorless and only Canon... (show quote)

Seriously?!?!? And yet he recommends that the OP hang onto his crop sensor Nikon. You just don"t ge it do?

Actually as full of himself as he can be at times, (and aren’t we all), I believe his most used camera is a Canon 5D MIII. The only mirrorless camera is a Sony A7II and I think he mostly uses that for manual focus with his non-AF Canon lenses. He is pretty true to his opinion that you should wear out what you have before you upgrade. I’m in the opposite camp. I don’t need to wear it out. I upgrade for new features that will benefit my work and sell the old stuff. I currently shoot Nikon FF, (Z7 & Z9), and Olympus M4/3, (OM-1, I need to sell the E-M1X).

Could be true…in which case it makes his frequent posts to that effect even more just trolling. You’re right…all of us are full of ourselves occasionally…but he’s the extreme outlier.

I'm almost embarrassed to say yahoos like neillaubenthal (see above) and OldSchool-WI and traderjohn give regular feedback on my many posts. If instead you reconsider your life's decisions and UHH community participation, I won't be hurt. I can see how you thought I was speaking directly to you in my initial post to this thread. But really, it was just a reply to the OP, with special subluminals to all the FanBoyz members.

Go ahead…justify your trolling to yourself…it’s quite all right with us. I no longer give any regular feedback to your posts…I had to turn down the gain on the BS detector so that only serious ones make it past…
