Thanx,
You are right, I have 25000 shutter count now, and the d7200 has been a good camara,
there is a lot of life in it ,
whatever my reason for upgrading is, just curious on what next upgrade should be,

I'll share my experience... I upgrade very seldom, often when the tech i own is desperately outdated. My last three jumps were from a Nikon P510 to a Sony RX100 and then to the A7C... It took about 15 years.

Each new camera I bought had four user experience stages:
1) absolute amaze and pleasure
2) frustration because not being able to get the results I wanted
3) hard learning, studying and practicing
4) extracting every last juice drop of the gear.

I believe you are at stage 2... It is of uttermost importance that you go trough stages 3 and 4 before you consider to upgrade your gear.

…moving up to an FX camera seems like the “logical” next expense…?

If your doing sports or wildlife, a D500 would be an upgrade. Otherwise it would be a waist of money for you to move from your D7200.
And if your doing sports or wildlife use GROUP AUTO FOCUS as your main focusing system.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I am a working professional photographer. I work with four D7200 cameras. I prefer to put money in my pocket than spend it on great new equipment. www.delottphoto.com

You need to say more. Like why? Like what lenses do you shoot? Like what subjects do you shoot? Like what format JPEG / RAW do you shoot? Like how much do you want to spend? Like why do you have GAS?

The UHH community is mostly populated with a bunch of retirees with more time and money than sense. Keeping up with this bunch of Joneses is a fool's errand. If you let the UHH community spend your money, nothing you have will ever be good enough to their standards.

Digital cameras are plenty good enough now, especially anything released since the resolution standard reached 24MP across the industry. You should be worrying about what you can do with your camera, not whatever newest model anyone else is bragging about. Unless your 24MP DX camera is physically broken, it's more likely than not you have not exhausted all the capabilities and possibilities of this model.

Don't let all the curmudgeons dissuade you if you want to upgrade. Most of them would still be driving Model A Chevy's and Ford Fairlanes if they could. The D7200 is a fine camera. But you want a Z7 or Z7II.

I used to be at the film era a pentax shooter since the 70 s . About 7 yrs ago , i ended up with a nik D 300 12 mp and the 2 kit lenses that came with it , those where used from a friend that went with a D 7100 .About a year ago , i receive the D 7100 in the mail with a note that said enjoy , i had moved to TX from calif . He went mirror less nik .I at time use the 7100 , but 90 %of the time i grab the older D300 . I think it is just a better built camera , yes heavier .So in this case it is not a upgrade . I dont notice much of a difference from 12 to 24 mp .

It used to be easy when there was a D7000, D7100, etc.

Some decisions:
Crop of FF?
DSLR or mirrorless?
Nikon?
$$?

I like my D750, but I also have the Zfc and the Z6 II. I'm not going to pick a favorite out of that group, but if I had to make a recommendation, it would be the Nikon D6 II. My one regret is that it doesn't have a pop-up flash because I use that very often on the D750.

Look for refurbished or used - MPB and KEH. I got one of my Zs through a Nikon sale.

You are part of the UHH community and just because you have no sense that doesn’t mean the rest of us doesn’t.
You are the most insulting of all UHH members and maybe it’s time you took a break from here. If you dont have
Anything to add to the conversation then shut up and go away.

Your advice is dead on. Having said that it must be a terrible burden to be the smartest person in the room. You accusing someone of bragging is truly the pot calling the kettle black.

The user interface of the D300 (and D500) is miles ahead of that on any of the consumer-level Nikons. They are a joy to use. Neither sports nor wildlife required to make that true.

Wow. Three paragraphs and the word Canon was not mentioned once. Congratulations Paul.

That's the difference between a pro who has to earn a living and someone doing photography for fun. A pro needs tools that get the job done. A hobbyist wants tools that are new and fun. I could still be shooting with my D90, but as new developments come along, I sell the old and buy the new.
