You just reminded me that I have a pair of socks on needles .... it's a different pattern, to what I usually use, so I had to wait for the DGD's to get here, so that I could have the correct measurements, for each of the girls, so that they fit properly. I will get on to them, when I finish catching up. I hope you get your socks finished, by the time you need to finish them! xoxoxo
I have been trying out different sock patterns. I tried the typical gusset and heel flap, fleegle heel, and shadow wrap heel. I'm now trying one with ribbing on the sole. I'm not sure I can walk on the ribbing but we shall see. I have previously knit the Sweet Tomato heel, and dutch heel. Then I'll start on different toes.
When I knit DD's socks, I traced her foot on cardboard and marked where the start of her leg was and where her ankles were. Her feet are weirdly shaped. She wears a size 9 extra wide shoe but her feet are only 7-1/2" long. Her instep is 12" circumference which is why she needs the bigger shoe. Usually she wears men's shoes because they actually have more room.
The fleegle heel pattern includes pages of instruction for making the cardboard foot. I found it useful for checking my progress without constantly having her try the socks on.
