I don't trust eBay at all. I've been burned a few times by unscrupulous vendors and eBay will not back you up at all.

I used to trust eBay, but these days there's little there I'm interested in that I can't find through other, more dependable, channels.

Anotere thought! Everyon is a LAWYER? Just lie everyone is a PHOTOGRAHER. Unless you have a good grounding in commercial law, a lot of this situation is guesswork.

Problem is, this is a $750. claim and if you consult a lawyer, the fee may exceed that value. My suggestion is to research the laws as thay pertain to SHIPPING merchandise. It is based on the BILL OF LADING. See this link for the details Theses waybills may beintrisnsc in the carriers forms.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_of_lading

The bill of lading set our the various responsibilities of the shipper, the carrier and te receiver. Knowing this body of laws perhaps can make it easier to see where the responsibility lies.

Itis also import ot understand someof the fine print that may wave certing obligation for the carriers or their insurers.

Why would anyone buy anything off e-bay. It's a risk and not worth the hassle.

Why is it a risk? Maybe buying from a third party on eBay is. But not eBay.

Yes, until consequences are too harsh to risk the action it will never end. Good luck with your resolution. I think the seller is out of the loop since it was properly shipped and arrived. One inconvenient solution is to pay for signature required delivery so someone has to receive and sign for whatever it is.

Yes, insured and signed for delivery with some sort of registered mail delivery is the only answer. Just yesterday a Christmas gift book I sent to my brother claimed to have been delivered in Seattle--but evidently not to his house. The tracking shows USPS handed it off about ten times around Seattle. But then books are at "book rate" so one cannot expect much and not like expensive camera gear. But the book was signed by the author--Adelle Davis.--------------ew

I can’t tell you the number of packages that were “signature required”, but delivered without one, or the times a package was shown as delivered on the carrier’s site but showed up a day or two later, or left at the street in the rain 500’ from the house. My personal experience has been that UPS is the worst offender, followed by FedX ground and only rarely USPS. Amazon is by far the best.

Btw, the stated terms of sale mater here. If the package is FOB origin, the buyer “owns” the product (and has responsibility for insurance filing in case of loss) when it leaves the seller’s dock. If it’s FOB destination, the title to the merchandise passes when the article is delivered to the buyer and the seller has the responsibility to file any insurance claims up to that point since he still owns the product. No idea what EBay’s terms of sale are.

Based on my experiences with Ebay it is probably origin. That way they can use the "I know nothing!" call the seller excuse for doing nothing.

Again, always use PayPal as you get another layer of investigation and a case number.---------

"...Hoping the seller had it insured..."
A solution that sadly goes overlooked sometimes...
Experience is a brutal teacher...

Another solution (which I believe is absolutely stellar) is to purchase from UHH, Members Buy/Sell forum.
That way you can carefully research the seller... A short time ago there was a flood of eBay sellers joining UHH and their first post was always an item that they can't or won't sell on eBay because of eBay's policies...

Nothing against eBay sellers joining UHH, however they virtually never post anything constructive in our other forums... And eBay's 100% positive feedback rating is a laughable... however UHH posting records is cast in stone... no BS there.

So sorry for the OP.... Next time please maybe wait and watch UHH Buy/Sell forum...
I have had only wonderful experiences their (both buying & selling)... and made many new friends there also...

Wish all a very healthy and happy New Year ahead! Cheers! Thomas

This is exactly why I use a mail/package delivery service. I don’t want anything valuable left sitting outside my door. I don’t want sensitive mail just sitting in my mailbox. A few weeks ago, I ordered a tripod from Sirui. It was miss delivered by FedEx (common for the contract FedEx delivery in our area). The camera in PakMain clearly indicated no delivery of my package. FedEx argued that GPS tracking indicated a good delivery and they made no effort to resolve the issue. The manager at PakMail didn’t accept the explanation. After staying on FedEx for two weeks, the driver discovered the miss delivery had been sitting at the business next door. No idea why someone at that business didn’t notice the miss delivery, but no one did. Sirui didn’t want to do anything initially because they received documentation of a good delivery from FedEx. Later that changed when the PakMail manager spoke with them stating video indicated no FedEx delivery. It is worth what I pay for the service annually.

I had something similar happen to me but the delivery address was somewhere else in town. Post office said it was a Paypal scam where someone hacked into paypal and got an address for something close to me and sent that as a tracking number but didn't send anything. They know that Paypal will refund your money and it is too small for them to pursue. Paypal did pay me back.

Maybe that’s why you don’t get “personalized” service like I do. We each have our own thoughts about remembrances at Christmas for those that serve us during the year. When we had garbage collection (now they use automated bins), I used to remember the garbage collection guys, just as New Yorkers often remember their doorman if their building has one. It’s a personal choice.

I'm not opposed to remembering them, but I see more than one carrier in my neighborhood so which one should remember? And what if it's the one who keeps delivering the wrong mail to my house? If the service was good, absolutely!
