Toby, there are sliders for backing off the intensity of cooking; Julia Childs, Betty Crocker knew just how.
Topaz AI trio is very effective, I had a 2001 cropped JPEG photo from a 3.1mp camera;Topaz worked wonders.
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-753293-1.htmlThere's a guy on YouTube who attempts to cook following Julia's recipes. He's serious, but it can be pretty funny.

You just have to balance the use of ALL three sliders in Topaz Denoise A1,
1)Noise reduction,
2) image sharpening,
3) recovering detail.
If you learn to balance them, it wont look overcooked. If you overdue one of the sliders, you likely wont like the results.
Topaz Denoise AI is a great tool to have when you need it.
One example which I have shared here in UHH before.
High ISO and high megapixel sensor camera, usually a prescription for much apparent noise .
A Great White Egret bends its neck to clean its feathers on the Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten/St. Martin. 50mp Sony A1 camera, Sony 200-600mm lens, ISO 1600, 591mm, F6.3, 1/2000 sec. Topaz Denoise AI used to clean it up a bit. First the full frame, then a tight crop from the same image.
Click on download to see the best image quality here even with UHH compression.
Many top Pro Sports and Wildlife shooters swear by Topaz Denoise AI or DXO Pure Raw for quality noise reduction while retaining detail.
Cheers and best to you.

Nice results.
Yes, all of life is about balance. I find that I get older, maintaining balance is more difficult.

This is funny. A friend sent me pictures of a few of us playing at the library fair yesterday. One of the pictures was an extreme crop - very noisy. When I tried to save it so I could use deNoise, it kept saving as the full-size picture. then I realized that he sent me a 1.4MB image, and I was seeing only a small portion of it. Topaz did a great job of de-noising. With Topaz working this well, I don't have to spend $49 for Luminar's DeNoise.
Attached is your top pic run through Topaz Photo AI 1.1.1 set to Size 2X, all other settings are default.
Note the size increase to approximately 2.0MB vs. your original 134KB.
I would only additionally

Interesting. Thanks. There should be a way to reduce the file size - like "flattening" an image in Photoshop.
EDIT: It would cost me $138.46. That's about $60 more than deNoise 3.7, and I'd get Gigapixel and Sharpen. Decisions, decisions.
If you get Topaz 'Black Friday' deal, you can upgrade all of their softwares (with the exception of the video) for $79.
I agree. DeNoise is a remarkable program especially for those who shoot with high ISO’s. I have sharpen also but rarely use it. DeNoise will sharpen slightly also, just enough to take out softness in a shot.

Seriff's new Topaz Photo AI is superb, imo. I have many of the photo programs and this one seems to include many of the previous options; facial masking, noise, sharpness and other options. To me it seems like an upgrade to Photo Adjust with the others added in. The stand alone Noise reduction, sharpness etc. have more tools and advanced sliders to use, however the Photo AI is a great place to start; again imo.
Too many choices! I got the ON1 bundle with the five "programs" for $53. I got the free update to Topaz 2.2. Should I spend another $138 for Topaz Photo AI? If I do that, ON1 and Topaz will have cost me less than the $199 regular price for Topaz. I have to try to justify this somehow.
I figure with ON1 2023, the ON1 Bundle, Topaz 2.2, and Topaz Photo AI, I'll have the best processing power available, and I'll never have to spend another cent on processing. Right? Right? 🤣

Also download the free trial of Topaz Photo AI. It combines AI Sharpen, AI Denoise and Gigapixel. Not fully equal to all three yet, but it is Topaz's stated long range goal is to get it there and stop development of the three individual products.
I think Photo AI is all you need, it does a better job than Denoise, I have Denoise but haven't used it since getting Photo AI.

I have Photo AI now, so I'll play with it.
Another option for noise removal is DxO PureRaw 2, the results are awesome but it's expensive, you can get a trial copy to check it out if you want. I'm curious if you liked Photo AI....

I have ON1 with NoNoise, too. I'll have the quietest pictures in town.
