Jerry: Get out the install disk that came with the scanner and re install it. Better yet, go get the latest drives right off the Epson sight and install those. Did you do a window's upgrade or anything like that?
Steve
Better keep them separated or you might have many mini scanners running around.
Hi,
I would have tried it in another pc or asked the shop to try it. You say you bought another one when the first one didn't work, you bought two?? Did you try installing latest driver or going into device manager etcc?
Hope it's still working ok. Bert

- USB connections are known to "disappear" occasionally. I have this intermittent problem with a 1T USB drive (HP-PC) 4 months old.
Can you not return your new scanner?

A few days ago I asked for suggestions to get my Epson V600 scanner running. When I turned it on, the power LED would light up, but that's all it would do. I hadn't changed any connections, but I reconnected and plugged into a different USB port. Nothing.
So, I bought another one. I turned it on, and the power LED lit up, but that's all it would do. I kept plugging and unplugging, and finally it started working.
I got my old scanner and connected the wires that were running to the new one. It now works fine. It is connected with the same power cable and the same USB cable, plugged into the same USB port. The only difference is the $183 I spent.
For some reason, the old one would light up but not run, and it was exactly the same with the new one. Now they both work - and the connections are exactly the same as they always were.
Go ahead. Offer an explanation. I dare you!

I am no expert jerry, and PLEASE BELIEVE me I am not having a shot at you (Australian slang - do you know what that means?) but the old saying says "If you got a different result you did something diferent". You cannot get a different result by doing the same thing.
Bad cables can sometimes be intermittent. Even though it's working now the problem still most likely is with the cable.

Now there's a logical answer. Thank you.
Here's another. Return to your old cable & if the problem returns you've hit the jackpot. Cable!!!
Perhaps the problem is the sometime delay when you attach a new device via USB while the computer finds the conection and installes the drivers.
I have seen this take as much as 3-6 minutes. Once the driver is installed, the next time you use it, it recognizes the device quickly.
Good Luck.
Also- for most USB devices, and in Windows, you should install the drivers before attaching the device. Sometimes, becoming a plugging chimp, you stimulate Windows to search for within its own driver store something that will work- though not necessarily optimally, or download something.
I threw my scanners away years ago. You have the best scanner in the world with your digital camera. I do a lot of copy and restoration work and I have found that re photographing the piece that I am working on gets me a huge RAW file to work with, clean (no artifacts from the scanner) and the speed in which you can copy art works is about 20 times faster.
It's the thing-a-ma-jig and the do-whichy.

This is EASY to explain, Jerry == It's a Winders "feature".

The non-worker was three yers old, so when I couldn't get it running after several days, I ordered a new one. Now I have two. I have the latest driver for it.

Oh, how could I forget? Peripherals occasionally stop working for no reason.
By the way, did you hear that the government is about to sign a contract with Microsoft? They're going to be supplying the software for all air travel in the country - reservations, scheduling, aircraft control - the whole nine yards. :D
