No, I'm not wanting to criticize R cameras. I'm just curious why the owners have put the up for sale, so quickly?

I recently went from a 7D II to an R5. The 7DII was fairly simple to set up and the menu wasn't NEARLY as big as what is on the R5. Plus it takes a while to learn how to navigate it on the R5. The R5 can be intimidating. Perhaps they feel that they have bitten off more than they can chew.

@robertjerl After watching a video of thieves stealing a wedding photographers equipment, I am wondering if the camera bag manufacturers will soon offer a handgun holster option?

You will see more Canon cameras for sale in almost any listing,
Craigslists, etc. simply because more people have Canons than any other brand.

Let me answer that question. Having not seen the ads, I can use an educated guess to answer this question. Because most camera makers release the new models in a certain order to entice buyers to purchase the latest and greatest models. For instance, Canon releases the R and the RP models. But in reality, those were just entry level mirrorless cameras. Then they release the R6 and R5. These are much improved models over the R & RP. You see where this is going now?. So then they release the R3 and I'd bet soon there will be an R1.
Let me answer that question. Having not seen the ... (show quote)

Sony R1 is already a designated model - albeit a blast from the past (launched about 17 years ago). I owned one of these much sought-after cameras - 10 mpx APS fixed 5 x Zeiss zoom. But too heavy, and I moved on to Panasonic's original Micro 4/3 the G1, mirrorless of course.

A friend of mine was always eager to obtain a newer model. I often wonder how he is able to afford all of those alimony payments to all of those older model wives. 😜

Maybe he (she?) kicked the bucket, and the spouse is selling off the stuff she can’t use??
My solution has been to make sure no buckets are left lying around the house.

For the record, I am not criticizing Canon or Nikon or any other camera company for the R type cameras. Perhaps just the opposite.

When I purchased my Canon 5DII camera, I saw that it had nearly every feature the very top model possessed. And I felt very fortunate for getting all those features in my new Canon camera. But back then I asked myself the question: Where does Canon go from here? I would be the last person on earth to want Canon to go -out of business-. So they needed to come up with a new "mouse trap" as the phrase goes. And they did. From the comments from my own college students who have used a R-series camera, I've been impressed, for they really like the R-series camera. So I think Canon has come up not only a 'winner', but a way to stay in business for many years to come.

As more people use their phone cameras, they soon learn of limitations. It is my hope that the ones who are serious about their photography via phone cameras, will then switch to DSLR's via R-series cameras. So I not only understand the new products and sales approach, I totally support it.

Overspent/need money for Christmas - grass was greener in the ads - realized now we need more new lenses - decided (now that one is in hand) that there was a better model - better, but not that much $$ better - your idea here -

Isn't the popular "illness" (said with smile) called GAS? Like everyone else, I like new things too.

He ask a legitimate question. I'll ask it again. Why would someone sell the almost latest version of a camera? Now I'll answer the question. Because 1 they don't like it. 2 it doesn't suit their needs. 3 It didn't make they a better photographer 4 They need the money for the next latest camera. 5 They decided to switch brands. See CHG. Its called giving an answer to a question. Not asking another question. Lmao. No offense meant I usually laugh at you. I must be having a rough day.

When someone asked a question based on what may be a false assumption, it is proper to ask how they arrived at the assumption behind the question.

In the case of my last big purchase, Canon RF 70-200 f/2.8, The reason I bought it dried up. I usually do landscapes but I have a grand son who was going to play football last fall but changed his mind so the lens just sits in my camera bag. It got used once to take a few moon pics and that is it. I should have given it some thought before spending $2600.00 on a lens I thought I might need. It may be the next thing to hit the chopping block.

All the online reviewers love this lens due to the compact size. It does have the limit of not being 'extendable' with the RF 1.4x / 2.0x, but otherwise, the lightweight makes it very useful. The next time you're thinking about another zoom, take the 70-200 instead, and see what it can do for you. I do landscapes all the time with a 70-200. You get different images too walking around with a 70-200 instead.
