Best to you. Folks can read for themselves in the links from the News Services in their own words why they chose to go mirrorless and go Sony and Nikon. Sony having a full mirrorless lens line in place already was one of the considerations for sure, as well as years of real-world tested and proven mirrorless gear performance, the pace of innovations, system reliability, professional support , etc.
These news services aren't just buying a camera, they are buying into a complete system, that was a major consideration. As a longtime photojournalist I have worked on staff at top newspapers as well as working freelance for top magazines and news services including AP. As a working photojournalist covering all subjects from pro sports to war conflict, you need a full system with a full compliment of top performing gear and a wide choice of quality lenses to cover all subjects and situations.
These Worldwide News Services including Associated Press, all Gannett media including USA Today, UK Press, Canadian Press chose Sony mirrorless. They are using Sony A1, A9II, A7RIV, A7SIII, A7C, FX3, FX6 and new A7RV cameras, and a host of E-mount lenses, mostly from Sony, but I do know some AP shooters that tell me they are also using top Sigma Art and Tamron third-party lenses.
AFP (Agence France Press) helped develop and test the Nikon Z9, and are using the Z9 with Nikon Z-mount lenses as well as the new Tamron Z-mount lenses. Of course these News Services are getting these latest cameras and lenses with priority from the makers.
A healthy camera market with multiple brands doing well is always best. Real competition is welcome as it spurs them all to greater innovation and we all win, no matter what brand we choose to use.
Cheers and best to you all.
