I would tend to say that England is a part of Europe but different. Because it chooses when and when not to partake in European continental affairs.

Lastly, it is different because the English cannot cook a decent meal. I mean only the English can call smashed peas part of of the entre!

Well... that was an interesting conversation we all had and I thank you all for that... aren't these groups wonderfully educational ?.... This conversation finally prompted me into becoming a fully paid up member of UKIP... I will post my cheque first thing in the morning!

..also I found out to my amazement that just three "so called" British (so far) posters in here are happy to be referred to as European's ...I just hope that you three never have the need to visit somewhere like Barnsley Stockport or Sheffield ... :?

.. just one final comment from me on this thread if I may :| .. With reference to the "smashed peas" above ??
.. is this from the same country that serves "baby food" for breakfast ? ... ie..... "sofkee... grits" :? Yuuuuuck! :hunf:

Well now, there's a strange thing. I shall be getting off a train at Stockport station in about 90 minutes. From there I shall be visiting a public house and spending a friendly evening with a bunch of friends who would also be proud to call themselves English, British, Mancunian and European. Is there something we should be anxious about there? Because in over 30 years of living very near Stockport, I've never experienced any problems. Except maybe the day the English Defence League came to town - a sort of thuggish UKIP crowd, I thought.

Ask for a show of hands in any pub...

What a lot of sad and insular xenophobes you are! Maybe the result of having never been out of your little villages.
The British Isles are part of Europe, just as Japan and Sri Lanka (for the fossils amongst you it used to be called Ceylon) are part of Asia. And just as Canada is classified as part of North America.
Being a European doesn't mean that you are not British, English, Scots, Irish, Welsh,Cornish or anything else - it's a geographical region not a nationality.
Your attitudes are just the sorts that caused Britain, the English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Cornish to be despised during the days of "the Empire". The belief that Britain was somehow superior and above all those bloody foreigners made us hated around the world. Everyone wanted to have their independence from us. We became alienated because of the "Alf Garnett" type bigotry that you idiots are now expressing.
Of course you are European, because that's where you come from/live on the surface of the planet. And it's great to have pride in your localism, County or Country, and the two go together.
If you persist with your attitudes you will become endangered species, and probably find yourselves placed in a zoo.
Maybe the best thing.

What a load of XXXX. I have travelled throughout Europe and the Middle East.

It should be apparent to you that WE were disliked because we were successful, (at a huge cost to our own, I might add.). The Scots were not disliked in France (for example). Treaties were signed, (frequently in our names, but not with our consent - The E.E.C. for example).

Next time I'm down in the beautiful county of Cornwall, I'll make sure to visit the tea plantations! Actually, they probably do have a few plants at the Eden centre - do you buy your "Cornish tea" there?

.. I was just reading a few of the posts in this section ...

Interesting to see that some of you folks see us Brits as living in "Europe" !!!!

well...NOT this one! !!! ... europe is on the right of the United Kingdom as you look at the map .... its where Europeans live! ... The UK is the island in the Atlantic... next to europe (small e) but not attached ...

Any of you Brits in here consider yourselves European ? ... ..just asking! :hunf:

If we had a referendum tomorrow in the UK we would be out of the EU politics altogether. The EU bureaucrats are the biggest crooks on gods earth, there hasn't been an audit done on the accounts for I dont know how many years now, because of discrepancies and misappropriation of funds. It is also the only democratic state without an elected body. The sooner we are out the better.
