Interesting to see that some of you folks see us Brits as living in "Europe" !!!!
well...NOT this one! !!! ... europe is on the right of the United Kingdom as you look at the map .... its where Europeans live! ... The UK is the island in the Atlantic... next to europe (small e) but not attached ...
Any of you Brits in here consider yourselves European ? ... ..just asking! :hunf:
If we had a referendum tomorrow in the UK we would be out of the EU politics altogether. The EU bureaucrats are the biggest crooks on gods earth, there hasn't been an audit done on the accounts for I dont know how many years now, because of discrepancies and misappropriation of funds. It is also the only democratic state without an elected body. The sooner we are out the better.

True ... too true! ... That's the reason that we will have to push hard to get the vote!
To stay in is just delaying the inevitable ...

Errrr... There IS actually a European Parliament, a far from perfect body admittedly, but it IS an elected body. If we did vote to leave the EU I think we'd be cutting our throats economically. Much of this debate is shaped by anti European newspapers, including those in the Murdoch empire (and there's an example of corruption if ever there was one) and idiots who see things in simplistic tribal terms. Sadly I fear that those idiots might actually win a referendum to take us out of the EU and that would be a sad day for us all.

You are right, at the moment, we would be cutting our throats economically. This would not, however, have been the case had we supported the Commonwealth. The Australians and New Zealanders got a raw deal. The previous correspondent was also correct, in that the E.U. accounts have not been audited for some years - largely because the auditors declined to 'sign' them off, due to lack of diligence.
Can you get "Cornish Hens" there as well?

Hey rt1379: If you want to go by maps, WHERE IS THE UNITED NATIONS LOCATADED ON A MAP?
sloane
Loc: Congleton, Cheshire
There are various ways to answer this:-
1. Without any doubt Geographically speaking we are part of Europe.
2. Politically speaking we have a strong link, although I wish we didn't. It certainly got worse when Blair signed up for European Human Rights in 1997 and Brown gave away part of Maggies rebate and signed up for the Lisbon treaty.
3. Financially speaking we were lucky to retain Sterling.
If you are fed up with the three parties, which party are in a position to make a difference?

We may have representatives within the EU parliament but it is the unelected commissioners who make all the decisions.
As for your point about us cutting our throats if we pulled out, I cannot see your reasoning here, as before we went into the European Free Trade agreement, we had a wide-world market for our goods, as we still have, and do you think if we pulled out of Europe we would stop trading with the these same countries, I dont think so.

Europe is a continent. Is England not a member of that continent? If it isn't what continent does it belong to?
