I'm surprised to see all the outrage online about non-white actors playing parts that have been played by white actors in the past. Looking at it from the other side...

I still feel sad for the original Jake, from State Farm. He disappeared quicker than Jared, from Subway.

If you watch the film 'Zulu' starring Michael Caine, all the Zulu warriors are Black, which is correct, as all the Zulu people are black! but I have noticed quite a few period productions are now showing black people in prominent positions in a mainly white society, which never happened! They are being made due to pressure from the PC brigade. Coloured people now hold prominent positions in our society, which will correctly be shown in films in the future.

Yes, that is funny. Before I finished watching all of Midsomer Murders, I was surprised to see prominent Black people in little English villages. They said they realized that that wasn't an accurate portrayal, but they wanted to be inclusive.

I remember watching Zulu in the local theater. That had quite a cast.

I like the guy doing the Farmers Insurance commercials. MetLife switched me to Farmers.

I have no problem with Ariel being of any color or race. I care not what color or race any fictitious caricature is portrayed. I do object to historic persons like Alexander Hamilton being portrayed as Black in a play.

Why the outrage? These are fictional characters, they can be anything you want, you shouldn't "read can't" historical figures "Washington played by a non-white or King played by a white" would be stupid and offensive and putting different races in a fictional situation that is inappropriate " white guy as Zulu warrior, any race other than Chinese in 10th century China, any race other than white in 10th century England would all be inaccurate and annoying".

I am probably in the minority. When I watch any presentation, I look and listen for the message of the production. Skin color should not be the limiting criteria for the person presenting the message. I watched Shakespeare plays done by a large variety of performers. Some come across better than others regardless of any superficial variants.

I remember some of the hullabaloo when Richard Pryor did famous movies scenes using black actors only. It was rather unsettling to see some of the "top" actors slamming the segments.

Movies...plays...all follow the Greek methodology of a storyline arc.

So basically, they are all the same in their structure.

The most important part for me is the script...not the acting.

If you have a great script with average actors...you will be entertained...engaged.
If you have a bad script with GREAT actors...I will switch the channel.

A script can save movie/play.
An actor cannot save a bad script.

Since the arc is always the same...I can tell in 10 minutes if a movie is worth my time.

I don't care who is in it.

In the WWII film "Bataan", all the Japanese in the film were played by anyone except Japanese because all the Japanese-Americans had been shipped off to "relocation" (should be spelled c-o-n-c-e-n-t-r-a-t-i-o-n) camps. Hollywood has always followed the least line of resistance to profits. So if nowadays it's convenient and profitable for them to be inclusive, they will. When it's not, they won't. And by the way, soon it won't matter at all. AI has made it possible for them to use computers to model virtual actors. Pretty soon, the only argument will be what ethnic group is making the computers.

Jesus Christ has been almost always portrayed - movies, statues etc - as Caucasian, complete with blond hair a blue eyes. Given where He was from He would have had olive/brown skin, along with curly dark hair and most likely dark brown eyes - and considerable offence has been taken in some areas when He is portrayed more realistically.
