The PC go apoplectic if there isn't "inclusion" at all times. The majority of shows now must include same sex couples, far more than in actual society, interracial couples, far more than in actual society, and now the latest "it" thing transgender individuals, far more than in actual society. But it won't do for anyone's program to not include them so they approach universal in current television. It was far superior entertainment when television was only meant to entertain and not to politicize and preach social commentary.

I have NOT watched TV since I moved to the Philippines, over six years ago (and will not return to the US, where I was born and raised, and lived for 88 years!)

I'm in favor of social commentary when it seeks to inform, not when it seeks to ram some b/s down one's throat.

And I agree totally with the points made by LDB415 re same sex couples etc.

For your entertainment on one of the topics...

Commercials are the same. They especially overdo it on interracial couples.

Jesus Christ has been almost always portrayed - movies, statues etc - as Caucasian, complete with blond hair a blue eyes. Given where He was from He would have had olive/brown skin, along with curly dark hair and most likely dark brown eyes - and considerable offence has been taken in some areas when He is portrayed more realistically.

Someone recently told me that some of those portraits were based more on Errol Flynn than Jesus. I couldn't find any online confirmation of that, though.

I am probably in the minority. When I watch any presentation, I look and listen for the message of the production. Skin color should not be the limiting criteria for the person presenting the message. I watched Shakespeare plays done by a large variety of performers. Some come across better than others regardless of any superficial variants.

I remember some of the hullabaloo when Richard Pryor did famous movies scenes using black actors only. It was rather unsettling to see some of the "top" actors slamming the segments.

From one of my Art Appreciation classes, it was thought that the image was put together back when the Holy Roman Empire was run by Goths. The blond, blue eyed images. As for Errol Flynn, it would be interesting to compare pre EF era images with those post EF era. We know that most of what is thought to be the Old Testament biblical imagery are primarily from the sagas by Cecil Blount DeMille.

(I just saw a commercial for the "Ark" in Kentucky. It included two talking Giraffes! But no Dr. G. Raffe nor Geoffrey T. Giraffe. Wonder if giraffes could talk in Aramaic.)

Speaking of the Ark and relates to previous parts of the thread, not giraffes but close enough for a smile...

Yep…I've noticed that almost all of the network shows these days have a same sex couple as part of the plot line…and while I have not a thought in the world against them as I think you should sleep with whoever you want to sleep with but just please don't get in my face a out it…it seems like political correctness now requires the presence of same sex couples and in order not to offend anyone there are both male and female same sex couples. Haven't really seen any transgender characters but we don't watch that much network TV anyway so wouldn't be surprised if there were.

I have no problem with Ariel being of any color or race. I care not what color or race any fictitious caricature is portrayed. I do object to historic persons like Alexander Hamilton being portrayed as Black in a play.

Chris Rock said, (Paraphrased) Give us about 4 generations, and you won't be able to dislike a man based on his skin color. Then and only then will you be able to dislike a man because he(or she) is an a$$hole.

I have actd in numerous community theater pruductions. My community is rural, not densely populated, and with limited ethnic or racial persons. Not long ago I was informed that to cast a person of a different race or ethnicity in a play required permission from the playwright. The same was put forth to switch the sex of a character. I wonder if those permissions are received for all the Hollywood productions that change race, ethnicity, sex or whatever.

You have to wonder where that uninspired nonsense came from.

I think you'd be VERY hard pushed to find many places where a playwright has ever specified who can or can't play various roles, or more accurately, your theatre manager would be.

Much more likely that someone has a personal agenda and they want to inflict this on everyone else.

Time to challenge stupidity, perhaps, and ask for some details?

As seems to be usual in America, we are incapable of doing things reasonably and logically, and without going to ludicrous extremes.

To what degree does this go on? Pantone color chart to see which shade of brown, white, yellow, black or anything is absolutely correct for the rôle? Who will play aliens? Gay people can only play gay parts & trans only playing trans parts? That will limit heir careers just a bit.

Will people with acne be allowed to play parts of people who don't? And as for having a 25 years olds play the part of a 26 year old, quite out of the question.

What utter b/s we allow to be dumped on ourselves...
