I am using my new cellphone camera when my wife and I take our daily walks. It normally takes very good photos. I see that most people hold the cellphone and trigger the shutter with one hand, but at 80 years of age, I'm having difficulty doing that. I try to hold the cellphone with one hand and tap the shutter button with the other. This usually results in poor photos. So, I bought a wireless remote for the cellphone to see if that would help. Works great. But I now have another accessory that works even better... my wife holds the remote and presses the button for me and I can hold the cellphone with both hands.

Looks like choosing your wife as an accessory was a great choice. You chose well.

A wonderful suggestion. At 73, I am not yet near 80. But with my visual handicap, this is an excellent idea. Thanks. --Richard

No accessory is better than a wife!!
I have very similar issues with holding steady with my iPhone. Just curious, what brand remote and cell phone?

Mark

Motorola Ace 5G and Zodiac remote.

You might try holding the ‘phone with both hands, and push the button with your tongue

I have a Samsung Note20Ultra that takes great photographs, but can be cumbersome when trying to press that shutter button. Fortunately, the Samsung app allows me to program the volume control buttons to take the picture or video. In addition, there is an option to enable Voice commands, e.g., "Smile", "Cheese", "Capture", or "Shoot". To record video, you say "Record Video".
You might have similar options available under Camera Settings.
In case your remote is unavailable...

Learned something new... just tried the volume control on my Motorola phone and it worked as a shutter button. Much easier to reach than the screen shutter button.

On the iPhone, the upper volume control is a shutter button when using the camera.

Turn on Siri on your phone. With Siri active, point your phone's camera at a subject of your choice and say "Hey Siri, say cheese" and the photo will be taken. Focus on holding the phone and let your voice do the photo.

True, but most people will hold the phone in the horizontal position, with volume controls at bottom left. So the left thumb is right on the upper volume control.

Huh? Mine doesn’t. I just tried it. Nope. Neither volume button will trigger the shutter. Seems like that was a feature that used to work and it was removed by an iOS update.

iPhone XS
iOS ver 15.6

I have the latest updates and just tried it. Go to settings then go down to camera and turn on “USE VOLUME UP FOR BURST”. Just push and release will do a single shot or if you hold it in will do the burst shots. Hope this helps

Cell phones for some time have had voice control, check spces on yours. Gimbles are also made for cell phones. They can be used for stills and videos, & have some nice phone special effects. I bought a "HOHEM", I think around $80.00. Cheers -- Dan
