I am using my new cellphone camera when my wife and I take our daily walks. It normally takes very good photos. I see that most people hold the cellphone and trigger the shutter with one hand, but at 80 years of age, I'm having difficulty doing that. I try to hold the cellphone with one hand and tap the shutter button with the other. This usually results in poor photos. So, I bought a wireless remote for the cellphone to see if that would help. Works great. But I now have another accessory that works even better... my wife holds the remote and presses the button for me and I can hold the cellphone with both hands.

I have a Samsung Note20Ultra that takes great photographs, but can be cumbersome when trying to press that shutter button. Fortunately, the Samsung app allows me to program the volume control buttons to take the picture or video. In addition, there is an option to enable Voice commands, e.g., "Smile", "Cheese", "Capture", or "Shoot". To record video, you say "Record Video".
You might have similar options available under Camera Settings.
In case your remote is unavailable...

With an iPhone, pressing either volume control button will take a picture. Makes it possible to easily take pictures one-handed.

Properly holding a cell phone is not often taught. However it is a camera so a steady technique is important. I have found using two hands wrapped around the phone, to hold the phone, with elbows tucked in, helps to stabilize the phone. I can reach the home button to trigger the shutter with my thumb, but it’s not easy. Cell phone companies could definitely make some improvements to help.

But it sounds like you have found a a great solution!

Huh? Mine doesn’t. I just tried it. Nope. Neither volume button will trigger the shutter. Seems like that was a feature that used to work and it was removed by an iOS update.

iPhone XS
iOS ver 15.6

depending on the phone you could probably use a voice command

I just updated to 15.6, and it still works on my iPhone 12.

This indicates is should be possible with IOS 15 and any supported phone:

Hi George. Do you know the buttons on the stylus also control the phone? It's a wireless mote too

I actually bought the Note for its size and haven't used the stylus. The stylus would come in handy when using the phone on a tripod. I will check that out. Thanks!!!

George

When I use the cellphone for pictures I have the timer set for 2 seconds. That way when I touch the shutter button I have time to steady my hand before the picture is taken.

Hold the phone horizontally so you don't get those horrible phone photos that are 1/3 photo in the center and 1/3 blur down each side. That puts the thumb right over the button as an added benefit.

I use wired earphones and the volume button on them will trigger my shutter an my iPhone 13 Pro Max I also have a plug in button that is a dedicated shutter release button, as well as a remote shutter release. Amazon sells a bunch. If you search in Amazon for “ iphone shutter release button”, there’s a pretty long list. Mine wasn’t expensive.

Seems like a very expensive add-on (wife), I know.... Still using mine for 51 years! I just don't know who is using who? I wouldn't switch for any new add-ons. Stay with whatever works the best for you.
