Color! First, last and always. That Bull is incredible!!

That's what the hubby says too....he really doesn't like B&W at all. That bull is amazing! He was the herd bull for a few years, haven't seen him this year yet, hopefully he made it and is just hiding out somewhere. Why do you never seen those guys in hunting season!!

Like them both ways. Enjoy B&W just for its simple elegance.

Thanks! I really like how the elk turned out...not so sure on the horse.

I'm 50/50 on the horse... I reckon there's a place for the colour and the mono;
the elk however looks better to my eye in mono.

Thanks....that's how I feel on the horse as well but I really like the elk!

First of all, nicely done.

I think it's all about the message. Since the digital era is all about color IMHO if you are documenting an animal in it's natural habitat doing animal things color it the correct medium. If on the other hand you are trying to express an idea, a look, a feeling often times B&W is the medium. In this case the B&W of the horse looks like something I would have taken as a kid with my Brownie. In the case of the Elk he doesn't need color for anyone to realize he is a magnificent animal. I think he is even more impressive in B&W because nothing else in the frame even competes with his dominance.
First of all, nicely done. br br I think it's al... (show quote)

Thanks....and I agree with you on the horse....Rudy does look better in color! That elk...he is an amazing bull...you should have seen live in the field....a picture really doesn't do him justice but I do like the shot better in B&W.

Thanks Ken, I have the elk in color printed and on my wall but I am thinking I might just have to reprint that in B&W.

Nothing to do today so been playing in Photoshop. Edited these two for B&W....what do ya think? Good, bad, what would you do different, which one do you like better?

My 2 cents, I love the world with color but sometimes I see images that don't need color to be really impressive and enjoyable. That bull Elk is the perfect example! His horns are mostly dark except the tines close to the tips! His fur offers the same kind of contrast from his impressive front shoulders/neck(cape) being darker and the rest of his coat, much lighter. Your beautiful horse is tricky but since the DOF is smaller, is the color behind that important to convey what you want from this image? I like both versions of both shots.
Nicely done as usual Cindy!

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed both versions. The horse ...his name is Rudy...was my favorite ride for 15 yrs and that bull elk is even more impressive when you see him in the wild!

If your using the BW tool and adjusting the color slider, you can make the horse stand out more by making the green look brighter in black & white.

The wapity looks nice.

Great work Cindy!!!
Beautiful images, both color and B&W!!
Just a suggestion for editing, since you're already working on the image try removing little white spots that have no detail (whatever they may be), (seen on the horses shoulder and muzzle).

I agree. The horse in B&W blends into the background a little as I see it. Perhaps try lightening the horse a bit.
