I drank it black until I discovered how much better it tasted with cream and sugar (or Sweet n Low). Now I drink two large mugs every morning as I am plying through UHH. I read that drinking coffee is actually good for you.

Jerry, I don't think you will beat basic Maxwell. Don't even try their instant coffee, it does not measure up to other options. I did not drink coffee until stationed in oversea locations where you would not want to drink the water but since then and years of traveling I have found that basic Maxwell is by far better!

Coffee preference is like whiskey preference. It is all about what you enjoy. When I go to Starbucks I get coffee, not coffee flavored beverages, and I could not even tell you what a “half caf, double mocha latte, light” is or even care to know. I drink it only with half and half, or black, if half and half is not available. My parents used to drink A&P Red Circle, then Maxwell House, then Folgers. I think I really started liking it in the early seventies, when I was in college. I was never an instant or freeze dried fan.

I prefer Jamaican Blue Mountain, Clifton Estate. I purchase them when available. On the other hand, I also drink Brewtal Awakening from Blackout Coffee. I never really liked Starbucks.
I do, however, use a coffee press or pour-over brewing method. You tend to get a coffee that is more flavorful and less bitter.

I own a Nespresso machine and have a double espresso (two capsules, one cup) every morning (black). Sometimes a second cup in the pm but the morning shot is usually enough for the day.

Nothing comes close to the rich flavor and smoothness of Kona coffee, we always drink it black with no sugar added. Either Jerry got a bad batch of Kona or it was an impostor that left him with a bad taste for what I consider to be the ultimate coffee to enjoy. Costa Rican coffee comes in as a rather distant second for me.

It could have easily been a "sour" pot.

Most coffees taste good when done right. Especially Kona.

Other counties with smaller populations take the best beans. The tasters always had some for testing/comparison purposes and we could go down and drink some ourselves. The difference was very noticeable but since taste varies by taste buds and acclimation, a given person may prefer the best or might just love rot-gut coffee. What the tasters said was from the best beans was very smooth, not someting for the "wake me up" jolt.

I started drinking the nectar of the Gods when I was about 7 with my dad when there was no school that day. He'd order me Boston Coffee, half coffee half cream. At 75 I'm still drinking it with a little milk and Sweet and Low. No sugar, picked up diabetes somewhere along the trek. I've tried the expensive and the cheap and settled on Peet's Major Dickenson's blend as my favorite. Runs about 8 bucks for 13 ounces. Usually one 28 ounce cup a day and I'm steady as a rock. I can hand hold my camera and get clean crisp shots at 1/15 of a second. I guess I'm lucky though I do miss those morning cups with my dad.
