I suspect that for many of us what we think about a particular grind of coffee or quality of a particular photographic image is based on our knowing the name of the coffee and the machine that brewed it or the model of the camera and, perhaps, the photographer who created the image. If people were able to consider either coffee or photographs from a position of being in comfortable situation and having the time to judge what they are drinking or viewing but not knowing the pedigree or parentage of either coffee or photograph, whether their opinions about the quality of either would be the same as it would be if they did know the brand of coffee or model of camera. I am of the mind that many of those above who are so cocksure about which grind of coffee is the best would not do so well in a blind taste test. I also think that if those who trumpet the superiority of this or that brand and model of camera, would not do so well in identifying images from their preferred cameras in a blind test if they could only consider what they see between the four corners of the image.
