Only notation I'll add, is I had the mentioned lens & used it with a tripod that supported 25 pounds. The issue I had, is the hood for the lens was so long that with a steady wind over 5 mph, I had vibration. In addition, I added 10 pounds of weight to the tripod, No difference. I ended up selling the lens & purchased the 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR Lens

Yes, wind has a habit of catching the long hoods.
When that happens...take off the hood.
If need be...use your hand to block any flare angles.

Great lens used for BIF with my D500. Yep. Heavy, but at 81 I can tote it for about two hours with a sling or monopod. The hood is crappy, and cracked but still works. I wish Nikon had put a bit more into the hood. I also keep it set on a tripod with a gimbal at my clean window near bird feeders.

Thank you! Did Nikon offer a warranty for your refurbished lens?

I use the lens on my 7500 and I’m very pleased with the results. It is an excellent lens and will work fine with your camera. It is a heavy lens and As suggested a good tripod will help. I also purchased a shoulder strap to take weight off my neck for the times I wasn’t using a tripod or monopod. I bought mine as a refurbished one directly from Nikon USA for under $1000. Check their site for deals.

Alert: Shaggy Dog Story. There was a 200-500 for sale yesterday in our classifieds. I contacted the seller to express my interest. He dutifully sent photos of the lens. I watched Cincinatti beat KC and when I went back to my computer to see what he sent me, a second note told me it was sold. I guess the moral of this story is to strike while the iron is hot and don't blow your photography habit on football.

So, I’m thinking of buying a Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED Vibration Reduction Zoom Lens with Auto Focus. I have a Nikon D7500 DX camera and this is a FX lens. Will it still work on my camera? I would have to spend $1400 on a lens that won’t work on my camera!! Thanks for any help on this!! ☺️☺️

From the D7500 user manual: https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/d7500/en/25_technical_notes_02.html

Nikon lens compatibility info: https://www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/a/tips-and-techniques/which-nikkor-lens-type-is-right-for-your-dslr.html

Nikon lens compatibility info: https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility-lens.htm

Nikon lens compatibility chart: https://www.nikonians.org/reviews/nikon-slr-camera-and-lens-compatibility

DX cameras can use both FX and DX lenses, no problem.

FX cameras require FX lenses, to get your money's worth from the camera. (Yes, you can use DX lenses on FX cameras... but heavy cropping will occur and a lot of image quality lost.)

I have one on my wish list. Nikon puts them on sale occasionally. Over Christmas I think they were selling for $300.00 off. I’m waiting for the next sale.

I would not used this on a tripod without a good lens support. I have an RRS support and it works beautifully. The support is expensive, but will last far longer than I will. This support works well enough with the mediocre Nikon mounting collar.

What is a RRS Support? Could you send MMS a link or picture of it? Thanks!

RRS = Really Right Stuff which is a brand name.

I rented one with the thought of buying it and it worked great on my Nikon 7200 but was too heavy. You might want to rent one to see if it works for you

It will work fine. Actually, it will produce better corner photo quality (FX lens produces a larger image spot on the D7500 sensor). Shop around, the price should be less than $1,400! BTW, I bought a "used" one through MPB (Brooklyn, NY) and it was in like-new condition.

Marquina may have bought mine. I sold mine (mint condition) to MPB for $850, they offered it for $1100. Be aware, it is heavy, which was the only reason I sold it. Great lens for the price.

One was sold on Ugly Hedgehog recently for about $900, if I recall correctly.
