If you sell it, it never looks old either
Here's the deal - in today's world there's no such thing as "sitting still" - if you're not keeping up or getting ahead, you're falling behind. You get to decide.

So you’re upset that a thread about gear has a lot of comments about gear. 🤔
There are plenty of comments not about gear. You’ve just chosen threads about gear to comment in. Usually about how superior you are with old gear over people with new gear. And nobody can validate your claims about great work because you used some funky system where your images are no longer available.
Just as well. And the text remains.
"I ain't buyin' no new stuff 'till my Kodak Brownie dies, cuz' I still haven't figured out all it's bells and whistles yet."
security for emergencies.
"If you can't buy 'stuff' what good is money?"
Security in bad times- and they are a coming.

Just put new strings on the bells and clean the crumbs outa the whistles.

If bad times are as bad as some say, you better convert that money to something that is a bit more inflation proof.

I'm not upset about anything. Selling a D850 system and all your F mount lenses because you think going a Z9 and Z lenses are going to somehow dramatically improve your photography? Errr...no. That's what people are doing. lol
I was going to start a thread on the transition of photography. I feel we are again at the very beginning of such a stage for the first time since film went digital.
It's being lead by kids in their 20's and younger. They are using very cheap cameras and relying on their skill and creativity. It's a generation that do their own thing. They don't care what others do or did in the past. They don't try and follow the current industry. It's a totally refreshing outlook from the gear driven, mechanical imagery of the past 20 years.
I won't make all the points I was going to make but imo, those of you who feel you need the latest and the greatest, you are already part of photography past.
It's been many years since I've looked at images that inspire me. Images that challenge me. Images that I can safely sit back and say, "I never would've thought of doing this."
These kids are producing them. Photography for me has never been so exciting. The least important aspect and in some ways a restriction of moving forward, is having the latest gear.

While I don’t agree that users expect a
“drastic” improvement from using newest gear, putting that one point aside I very much agree with your observations that follow after that (remainder of your post).
