I really don't know you, so I have to rely on instinct. Sometimes, you put posts on here that seem to be quite informative, then, at times, you ruin your image (in my eyes!) when you make statements like you did in this post. I would think you would know that Canon and Nikon both produce outstanding gear. I find it distasteful for anyone to so blatantly put down Nikon and, in effect, Nikon users. I may not be the awesome photographer you are, and I surely am not the "all knowing, intelligent person" you like to portray. But, I would not put down any camera brand or any user of a camera brand as you have done repeatedly. I put very little faith in what you say anymore. Oh, and by the way, I started out my "hobby" of photography with Canon gear. I switched to Nikon, and never looked back, I am perfectly satisfied with Nikon, understanding that I will never reach your stature as a photographer. Have a good day, Sir.

Paul likes to have his fun, don't worry about his anti Nikon comments. He adds a high value to UHH.

One must wonder about this Tony dude. He is an expert on gear, writes blogs and he got suckered into buying gray market gear. One must wonder about his grasp of the subject he professes to be knowledge about. Perhaps Tony should have kept this to his self?

They have always had the parts for me and many many other folks. Mid West Camera repair is one of the biggest all camera brand repair shops in the world.

The reality is that Nikon is now limiting which repair shops will get genuine Nikon parts to a few Nikon-selected repair facilities across America. So even the biggest repair shops may soon run out of OEM parts for your Nikon repairs.

Many of my fellow pros who are Nikon stalwart users have run into this problem already when trying to get their Nikons repaired from some of the best independent repair shops. The shops just can't get the OEM parts from Nikon like they used to be able.

Just a fact and the new reality Billnikon. Read more at the link below. Nikon authorized repairs will now be limited to two Nikon facilities , one at Nikon USA headquarters in Melville, NY, the other at a Nikon facility in Los Angeles, California.

Your local independent shop may still have a few parts for your Nikon in stock, but won't be getting any new OEM parts from Nikon like in the past.

Pro's do not buy gray market Nikon's because they can't afford not to. And all the pro's I know are members of NPS, are you?

@jradose- CHG_Canon is often "tongue-in-cheek" humorous. He gives very informative commentaries & is an excellent photographer. Nothing he writes bothers me, I know he is often only superficially poking fun and always draws a wry smile from me with statements like, "...don't buy Nikon..."

If you are asking me, I have been an NPS member for over 40 years. I also belong to Canon CPS, and to Sony SPS. Not sure about the OP.

Sorry, but in spite of the good info he often provides, too many of his posts are just toxic, abusive and insulting . I administer a worldwide facebook photography group and our rules on toxic comments would have warned then banned CHG-Canon long ago .

Sadly the standards of conduct here in UHH are much lower, and no moderators seem to care about anything toxic he says. He has found the perfect place for his daily toxic comments on everything.

The little I have seen of Northrup he is OK. And a number of gentlemen I respect in posts are playing around.
The world of Nikon (My favorite camera's for years) I never bought from the gray market didnt want to play
games to save some money. Tempting at times. The lack of a warranty was not a good idea..

- In all the years I have only sent out for repairs and it was Nikon D800's.
-Ken Rockwell was rock solid for me with quick look at gear.
I don't think that personal attacks on each other is good.
But that seems to be the way of the world today.
One only has to look at the news and socialy networking to
see a place where "anger management" would work.
Stay safe my friends.

I watched another video from Tony Northrup last night, and he came down strong against gray market gear. He unknowingly bought a gray market lens, and he had trouble getting it repaired. He finally found a shop that cheated and fixed it for him. If you think your item will never need repair, you can save some money, but if it were me, I'd always worry about something going wrong with it.

I bought a Chevrolet from a Ford dealer. It broke and I brought it to a Chevrolet repair shop. They told me they could not fix it because I bought it at a Ford dealer (NOT).
Tony Northrop just likes to hear himself talk. Very seldom does he present anything he does not twist with his own perspective on what he thinks it means. He rarely does any real good research on what ever he is talking about.
Grey market usually means International or not specifically marketed for your country or area. It most of the time means no warranty, so if it breaks you have to pay to have it fixed. It's pretty much still a Chevrolet. You can bring it to the Chevrolet dealer and have it fixed. You just have to pay for it.

Member since my UPI days. And I will add I have NEVER not gotten a Nikon camera repaired, NEVER. You may want to check where your sending your Nikon but this guy has never had an issue, neither have all my fellow photographers, quick turn arounds, timely discussions and excellent customer service. What else you you expect from a great company like Nikon.

You take a risk when you buy anything really. However, I have had Nikon equipment, bodies and lenses since the early 70s and never had a need to repair a lens, except for one time and that was a new lens in the last 8 years. All the others are still working just fine. How many readers have had to have lenses repaired, compared to the one who never have? Too much worry about grey market stuff, in my mind.

I've owned Canon equipment since the 70s and have never had to repair any of them. My Hasselblad needed constant tlc and a few repairs. I started off with a Miranda 35mm camera and then moved to a Canon F1 and have never looked back.

You need to lighten up about CHG-Canon, and the standards of conduct here at UHH. Perhaps you should focus on the administration of your “worldwide Facebook photography group.” Being Facebook and all, it sounds like a really important job.

Ask yourself a question which company sells the most cameras and that certainly is not Nikon, nothing wrong with their cameras except I think they are slightly behind the times Canon and Sony sell more so they are more popular.
