In the current era of rapid delivery of global products, the concept of grey market by Canon and Nikon really should be a thing of the past. Do Nikon and Canon really make country specific models? Unless they do, why should they care where a consumer purchases a camera or body.
Are Canon and Nikon and perhaps Sony, just extracting a higher price from consumers in the US and perhaps Europe?

Again, the whole grey market concept is really just a penalty on the consumer.

Many of my quite well educated friends here in the south tend to drop the 'r's from their speech. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they didn't talk like that. However dropping 'g's was quite common. i.e; goin' rather than going. Lest all have a glass or sweet tea and be friends.

OK...so, if you're gonna do it, do it right. Drop the "e" and put an apostrophe in its place. Otherwise the reader may think "enemy"...fo' sure.

Good reason to never buy anything previously owned by TN. . .

Even Tony admits he puts his equipment through the gauntlet.

Someone here can probably speak to the 'history' and 'governance' of camera markets vs say computers. The markets are segmented into regions and specific countries for more reasons than to screw the customers, no matter how it now looks in Oct 2021.

They may or may not making camera somewhat difference depending on where they are going to sell. But their point about gray market is that for each country they have to sell at a different price and thus their profit margin is difference and also their level of service. Also for certain country they would have more liability than others if their products harm someone.

Right, and that is intended to encourage people to buy USA Nikons.

Since the repair shop is run by Nikon USA, that seems a sensible business practice.

I left it alone, but technically, second best is now Sony with Nikon falling to third ...

I couldn’t be happier than with my Fuji X-T2, and Fuji X100V. Guess I don’t know what I’m missing.

Fugi makes great cameras. I think the pecking order for cameras should take into consideration the mirrorless segment. Sony rules this segment. Canon is second. Nikon is a distant third.

...haha, indeed. You shoulda seen me in basic training at Ft Polk, LA when this SoCal kid was introduced to grits. I thought it was Malto-Meal and put sugar and milk on 'em. Well, this HUGE mess Sgt. hovered over me yelling "...watchu doin' to mah GRITS, boy!" Haha, and later I took flight school at Ft. Rucker, Alabama...so I'm *definitely* familiar with the south!

I watched another video from Tony Northrup last night, and he came down strong against gray market gear. He unknowingly bought a gray market lens, and he had trouble getting it repaired. He finally found a shop that cheated and fixed it for him. If you think your item will never need repair, you can save some money, but if it were me, I'd always worry about something going wrong with it.

One must wonder about this Tony dude. He is an expert on gear, writes blogs and he got suckered into buying gray market gear. One must wonder about his grasp of the subject he professes to be knowledge about. Perhaps Tony should have kept this to his self?

Jerry the other half of that equation is I have bought Nikon since 1966. Not once has any one of the numerous cameras I purchased had any need whatsoever of any type of repair. Since the only difference in the Nikon cameras, grey market or those certified by Nikon USA is the piece of paper called a warranty, I could have probably saved thousands of dollars buying grey market cameras that would have needed no repair at all.

I get your point and do not necessarily disagree but.....

Another solution is don't buy Nikon.

My goodness Paul, you have successfully opened up a can of worms with just 6 words. Not just about cameras but everything else from spelling to infinity. LoL It just shows that everyone has some kind of button to push.

Have you seen his house and his new Beamer; and his wife is easy on the eyes. I thinks his grasp on making money is what he is all about?
