I have a PDF, a photo book I created, that I would like to share. The problem I keep running in to is that the file size, 59.9MB is too large for either my email, AOL, or Dropbox to accept. Is there any way that I can break the PDF into smaller pieces?

A way to break up the file would be to open the source file (Word, Pages, etc.), save it four times with different file names (Title A, Title B...), and delete 3/4 of it from each document.

There are many ways to edit PDFs within Apple Preview, if you're a Mac user. You can save pages as JPEGs, compress files, shuffle pages around, and more.

50GB is very large. You would need a paid cloud service to handle that big I would think. Free one would only let you have around 2GB of storage.

The Op said he had 59 MB, not GB

If you have a purchased copy of Acrobat PRO you can go and edit the large PDF file into smaller files.

There are file sharing websites that you can join that allow you to post files of any size for others to download. On many, they can even view the files before downloading.

With that, all you need to do is upload your files and send an email with a link to your web address and file size ceases to be a problem. There are many such sites and you should research them regarding the safety and security of using them.

Someone has already suggested www.wetransfer.com

It works extremely well - as long as you avoid the ads trying to get you to sign up for a paid version - and can transfer files up to 2GB.

The size of your file is no big deal at all - no need to mess around with zipping etc.

I've used Wetransfer many dozens of times.

Email is usually limited to 20-25Meg (depending on the provider), for the email AND all attachments.

Exactly.

If you insist on using PDF, consider breaking the book into 4 smaller parts?

Email file limits have been creeping up over time. 25 years ago the limit was 3 to 5 Mb.

If you don't want to use wetransfer - can't think of why you wouldn't as it is SO easy - you can ask you ISP to increase your mailbox size (and the number of emails you can send simultaneously) if that is of interest. My maximum file size via email is 100Mb. I regularly send 30-50MB files to others who can accept such files sizes, but for BIG files, wetransfer is much easier.

Absolutely no need whatever to cut up your file. Completely unnecessary, especially as it just isn't that big of a file anyway.

Further, cutting it up may mean that someone at the other end may need to put it back together again.

You may want to use the "reduce file size" feature in Acrobat. Good luck!

I have made extensive use of the "PDF Expert" app (I use a Mac) for several years. Great for editing, merging, and (in your case) compressing PDFs. Has option so you can control quality of compressed file -- might be useful. Or, use DropBox or one of many available "cloud" services.

If you don’t have Adobe Acrobat, download Adobe Reader and:
Open your document in Adobe Reader
Click on the Print button
Choose Adobe PDF printer as the printer you want to use.
Choose Current Page under Pages to Print, if you want to 'extract' the page that you are currently viewing OR Select Pages and enter the range of pages that you'd like to 'extract'.
Print and save the print job to wherever you'd like it to be saved.
You can select any number of pages for each file.

Have you tried saving it as a compressed PDF? I'm guessing you have a lot of large images in it. Depending on your PDF creator, you may be able to save it for the intended device. Print will look best at 300dpi, but if you are having people read it on a tablet, you can do much lower and have a smaller size.

Dpi had nothing to do with viewing on a screen, that is automatic, in ppi. How does Sabrina a file with lower than 300dpi affect file size? 6000x4000 is the same size wether 300 or 72 dpi.
