Must be. Never heard 'em called that in all the years that I lived in Missouri, either. Probably a reference to the Missouri River. Why anyone would associate a barbed wire gate with a river, especially one that wasn't close to the water, is a puzzlement.

I suppose it is a localism - the Texas name "Gap" makes sense.

Common in Texas and western states. Nobody likes them. Trick is to get the wire as straight as possible before "stabbing" gate post into the bottom loop. Then bear hug the fixed post and the upper part of the gate post while using your third hand to drop the always-too-short wire loop around the upper part of the gate post. There is a colorful vocabulary that attends this exercise. Been there. Done that. Got the scars to prove it.

Missouri Gate? We call it a "Hobo Gate" as it its easy to install and use.

I note some warriors forming on that bluff.

Great shot thanx for sharing.

Tug the wire loop up off the free 'gate' pole, drag the barbed wire gate out of the way, drive through, stop vehicle, get out and go back to the gate, stretch/drag the contraption back to its closed position, struggle with the wire (barbed? probably... all the best gate loops are...) loop the loop up and over the pole to secure the gate, return to vehicle, continue along your way. Wash, rince & repeat upon return. Anyone caught not closing the gate behind them may be subject to harsh language. Or worse.

Been through a bazillion of these gates but never heard 'em called a 'Missouri gate' before. Is that a Montanistan thing....?

Must be. In Idaho they are cattle gates.

Thanks very much, I'll agree on make and install, not so much on use!
