Mostly an advantage. Big State, last I looked, population a bit over a million one.
Tug the wire loop up off the free 'gate' pole, drag the barbed wire gate out of the way, drive through, stop vehicle, get out and go back to the gate, stretch/drag the contraption back to its closed position, struggle with the wire (barbed? probably... all the best gate loops are...) loop the loop up and over the pole to secure the gate, return to vehicle, continue along your way. Wash, rince & repeat upon return. Anyone caught not closing the gate behind them may be subject to harsh language. Or worse.
Been through a bazillion of these gates but never heard 'em called a 'Missouri gate' before. Is that a Montanistan thing....?

Missouri population is a little over 6 million. St.Louis and Kansas City are in Missouri.
Nice image. Never heard it called that but I have been through many. Even had them on my property.

Missouri gate may well be a Montanaism, never heard them described elsewhere. I do really dislike them and replaced most of mine.

Used to get to St.Louis on business, pretty nice place to visit back then.

Thank you! Probably local - my description is more like that Dam' Gate. Still have a couple to places I don't need to go often.
Cheap and effective where there is not a lot of traffic. They are very common down here

Ah, yes. The occasional rip. Slovenly of me to have omitted that.
But what's to dislike about them? Especially when they can be so entertaining. Out one time with a city slicker friend, we got to one of these 'Missouri Gates' and I sent the guy out to open the gate. After a couple minutes, he figured it out, opened the gate, and I drove through after telling him to close it again behind us. He manage to close the gate, but sorta did it wrong. After struggling and swearing and maybe even getting a rip or two while getting the loop looped and the gate closed, he found himself on the side opposite me and the Jeep.
Nice shot Quixdraw. In Texas those are called gaps and in some cases require almost a gargantuan effort to close.
