Since 7:30 this morning my estimated delivery changed from today until tomorrow. Looks like FedEx picked up the package from the B&H warehouse in N.J and took it to Pennsylvania instead of Delaware.

Surprised? No!

While I was typing this an email popped up from UPS stating they will deliver a package today that was picked up in Maryland. I bet it shows up before I sit down to dinner.

UPS delivered my package. The driver rang my doorbell and left the package on my porch. I got a voicemail from FedEx confirming delivery tomorrow, requiring a signature. The message also said where to get instructions if nobody would be home. So far so good.

Which other camera retailer frequents these forums, and dpreview and fredmiranda, etc? I think this is just one indication that B&H cares about our customers and their experiences.

UPS, FedEx, DHL & USPS all struggled over Christmas a few years ago, hiring too few seasonal workers and underestimating traffic and volume. The next year they went too far the other way and overspent, incurring the wrath of stockholders. I don't recall the date we switched to FedEx offhand but I'm confident it preceded this unfortunate situation.

Henry,
Every time these threads come up it seems that there is overwhelming support for B&H (thanks in large part for the work you do), and an overwhelming lack of support for FedEx. Is sticking with FedEx doing what's best for your customers? When you check on other forums are you seeing more customers in favor of receiving their purchases from FedEx over UPS?

Bought a camera from Japan, via eBay. Came through the USPS. Well packaged, short time considering the distance and inspection at customs. Most often buy from KEH. They advised B&H for an item they did not have. Got it after minimal computer issues and received on time in good condition (free shipping). I live in rural Oregon.
FedEx.

All of the shipments I get by FedEx look like they went down with Tom Hanks on the plane and spent 2 years on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific!

I like B&H a lot. I buy all my camera equipment there. The fact that you practice your faith beliefs and are closed on Jewish holidays does not bother me at all. I admire your openness. I just ordered from B&H and received my order as stated. As for signing for my equipment, it is better to be safe and sure when I pay over $2000 for a lens. FedEx et al are not your fault. Thank you B&H. You have great customer service and can be trusted.

So your gripe is with Fedex and not B&H.
I bought the same camera, same situation, about amonth ago, I understand why they want a signature, it’s safer for you and them and also avoids unscrupulous buyers from claiming they never received the goods.
B&H service is impeccable, they pay for expedited shipping and stand behind what they sell.

Seems to me you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. Granted, I am a huge fan of B&H. You can call if you are not sure of what you need and they give professional and honest advice, sometimes missing a sale in the process. Why blame B&H for a FedEx screw up?

Most companies require a signature for expensive products, not unusual at all, and that is the way it should be. I'd be very uncomfortable having a $3K product delivered and sit on my porch for a day. I buy a lot from B&H and have not had any problems with delivery even though I am clear across the country.

Whenever I have needed help, like getting DJI to live up to their agreement, B&H has stepped right in and fixed it.

I definitely understand your frustration with a delivery that needs a signature, but figure, you are not getting a $50 product. If it was left there and someone took your $1K item, that would be the beginning of a huge nightmare,

Here’s what I don’t like about my recent transaction with B&H. On 8/18 I ordered the Sony RX10IV and the online purchase when smoothly. At the time of purchase I was provided with a delivery date of Monday, 8/23. That was fine I wasn’t in a hurry. The following day, 8/19 I received an email from B&H stating they were using “expedited” shipping and I would get the camera on Saturday, 8/21—great. But the email also said that a signature would be required. I didn’t like the idea of having to stay home all day so I began trying to see if I could narrow down the delivery time; not possible. All day Saturday, until around 4:00pm, the status showed “in transit at Orlando.” Then it when to “arrived Orlando 11:52am.” Well is was well, 4pm was it still coming?

Around 5pm I checked and it said the package had been delayed and would be delivered Sunday 8/22 before evening. Just wonderful, now I’m married to the house for a second day. Still no window of delivery time, just Sunday 8/22.

B&H has a great reputation and I have purchased from them before without issue. I didn’t check their competition on this order but I will next time. I don’t know why they use Fedex when it’s common knowledge their service is no where near as reliable as USPS or UPS, at least here in the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. And why the required signature? I have purchased items more expensive than this one from other vendors and no signature was required.

One last mention about Fedex. Several days ago my wife ordered air pods online and the seller selected Fedex as the delivery service. Immediately she got an email saying they would be delivered on 8/17. Late on 8/17 an email changed the delivery day to the next day. They were delivered on 8/18 in the evening, more than 24 hours after the initial delivery date/time. It took Fedex 8 days to get these from Tennessee to Tampa. But no signature was required so we were not MARRIED to the house. It took Fedex 5 days to get my camera from NJ to Tampa. Both my wife and I have agreed that from here on we will pretty much purchase from companies that DO NOT USE Fedex.

Final note: The camera arrived at 12:30pm 8/22. The driver rang the door bell and then departed. No signature was requested.

Everyone is having difficulties in shipping. I recently sent a Priority mail from my home in Pennsylvania to New York on a 2 day Priority mailing. It took 10 days.
So yeah, things happen.
Did you get the lens? Any thing I order from B&H that costs over $300.00 has to be signed for, why, because believe it are not there are folks out their who will say they never got it when in fact they did, and now they are getting another one free on the company.
I, unlike you, understand the current conditions existing in mailing anything, through anyone, is going to be a headache, and unlike you, I also except it as a current way of life under the Chinese Pandemic.
And, unlike you, because I except it, I will probably live longer with less stress on my plate.

I use to use BH nearly exclusively. Then they changed to Fedex delivery who has proven to be unreliable in my area. That was the first negative. Then BH had equipment backordered for weeks and months at a time so I started to search out other internet stores and found my equipment in stock- Samys, Best Buy (believe it or not) and the Canon store- all shipped within a day or so and with a reliable carrier. I am still on the wait list at BH for equipment I was able to buy elsewhere weeks and weeks ago- BH never notified me it was available. So while I still shop at BH I seek out other merchants as well.

Kind of a coincidence, but UPS dropped a package at my door yesterday. It's a box of medical supplies for the veterinarian who lives on my street.

That brings up a recent problem with UPS: different drivers. It used to be that I always got my packages from the same driver, and I'd give him/her a tip at Christmas. Now, I have a different driver just about every day, so they don't get to know the people, and they make mistakes. FedEx has always had different drivers, but at least they arrive much earlier in the day than UPS.

We went through rotating drivers a while back. For the past few years it has been the same driver, except a few days around Christmas.
