Please explain more about delivery to Walgreens as an alternative.

I have had fedex packages, valuable ones, shipped to Walgreens. Wonderful convenience. A wonderful alternative to being chained to the house.

Here’s what I don’t like about my recent transaction with B&H. On 8/18 I ordered the Sony RX10IV and the online purchase when smoothly. At the time of purchase I was provided with a delivery date of Monday, 8/23. That was fine I wasn’t in a hurry. The following day, 8/19 I received an email from B&H stating they were using “expedited” shipping and I would get the camera on Saturday, 8/21—great. But the email also said that a signature would be required. I didn’t like the idea of having to stay home all day so I began trying to see if I could narrow down the delivery time; not possible. All day Saturday, until around 4:00pm, the status showed “in transit at Orlando.” Then it when to “arrived Orlando 11:52am.” Well is was well, 4pm was it still coming?

Around 5pm I checked and it said the package had been delayed and would be delivered Sunday 8/22 before evening. Just wonderful, now I’m married to the house for a second day. Still no window of delivery time, just Sunday 8/22.

B&H has a great reputation and I have purchased from them before without issue. I didn’t check their competition on this order but I will next time. I don’t know why they use Fedex when it’s common knowledge their service is no where near as reliable as USPS or UPS, at least here in the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. And why the required signature? I have purchased items more expensive than this one from other vendors and no signature was required.

One last mention about Fedex. Several days ago my wife ordered air pods online and the seller selected Fedex as the delivery service. Immediately she got an email saying they would be delivered on 8/17. Late on 8/17 an email changed the delivery day to the next day. They were delivered on 8/18 in the evening, more than 24 hours after the initial delivery date/time. It took Fedex 8 days to get these from Tennessee to Tampa. But no signature was required so we were not MARRIED to the house. It took Fedex 5 days to get my camera from NJ to Tampa. Both my wife and I have agreed that from here on we will pretty much purchase from companies that DO NOT USE Fedex.

Final note: The camera arrived at 12:30pm 8/22. The driver rang the door bell and then departed. No signature was requested.

That is NOT B&H problem but the delivery service which right now is way understaffed due to people not wanting to go back to work.

When checking out after your purchase you can opt to have delivery to "fedex store ". You choose the location closest to you. Easy and secure. Last time I used this I rented a very expensive lens from lensrental. I got an email from Fedex when it arrived at Walgreens. Fedex had a dedicated area in back of the store. I presented ID and they gave me the box.

When I was trying to schedule a FedEx delivery with a vendor, I went to the FedEx website, entered my zip code and then a list of authorized FedEx locations appeared. One of the locations was a Walgreens. Two other locations were FedEx stores but they are not as convenient. When I placed the order, I added a ship to address with my name and the Walgreens name and address. FedEx sends me an email that the package was delivered to the Walgreens. Then I have a few days to pick it up. When I pick it up, I have to show ID and sign for it. All this at no extra charge. It is easy and secure.

FedEx is the absolute pits in this area. They have obviously bought B&H and KEH shipping rights without either concern caring anything about customer satisfaction with delivery. Their attitude apparently is once the shipment leaves the store they don't care what problems the customer has with delivery. B&H offers free returns under certain circumstances but it is by FedEx only. If you live in an area where there is no FedEx office, you have to use a FedEx drop box. If you do, and the shipment never gets back to B&H, you have lost everything because there is no record of your having placed the shipment in a FedEx drop box. You are also faced with mandatory signature requirements that can be a real hassle. I ship everything by either UPS or USPS, never, ever by FedEx. And yes, if I have a return to B&H I pay the shipping by UPS or USPS rather than have to deal with FedEx.

Fedex won't even ring my door bell. they set boxes by the door and leave. I did find out some Fedex trucks are now privately owned and they hire their own drivers.

Same here — it's usually FedEx and they don't even ring the bell. Never had to give a signature, not even for my 27" BenQ monitor that was a huge box and cost $650! They do send an email with a lovely picture of pkg at my front door — but I don't check my email that often ... That said, nothing has ever stolen or broken (fingers crossed), but how hard it is to. ring a doorbell?

Same insecurity feeling for me and Fedex. Shipped 5 grand worth of camera equipment and it was signature required. Their retail stores are really good and provide excellent packing services at a reasonable price. UPS has franchise stores and overcharge for packing and shipping

I created a free account with FedEx. I simply go on line, have FedEx re-route the delivery to the local FedEx store...item gets delivered to the store, I get notified via email and I go sign and pick up item..could not be easier. Deliveries are often updated or delayed but that generally does not impact me.
