Hmmmm... Not sure about that. The new phone cameras don't require much skill to use but generate great results.

My comment was not related to phones.

Thanks for the push. A few more of these, and I'll start shopping.

I will push you to start shopping. Old or new or good excuses are no excuses not to go shopping for a new camera; the joy of photography is when you get new toys. Then you can come back here and tell us all about it.

But many people are using phone cameras today with great success. They have high megapixel sensors and great color. They are very good fit what they are designed to do. There are even courses on using the camera and external lenses are available.

I suggest the phone camera crowd is much bigger than the high performance interchange lens camera crowd. I would guess many photographers here also use their phone camera at times.

that's a new justification. Want to exercise your brain? try expanding the range of possibilities with your current equipment. Have you done focus stacking, astrophotography, still life?

I've been watching camera reviews and comparisons on YouTube, and I have to be careful. The new cameras sound so good! I especially like comparisons because they point out specific differences between two cameras. So far, I have resisted the urge to buy anything. I still use my D750, Sony a6000, and Fuji X-T30. So far, so good. Unless I find a good excuse to buy something new, I think I'll be safe.

Jerry I have Fuji's X-T2. How do you like the X-T30?

want vs need! Still using the D810. I would like a little better ISO performance, better focus system & fps but, a biggie at my age would be a flip out/up, down screen. I'll get by for now & probably wait until my camera doesn't work anymore. Maybe a D850 or Z6-2 for astro. I can see & like a lot of features of the new mirrorless but...

Still waitying for my Nikon D850 fron B&H. While waiting for it, I am considering moving to a Nikon Z-6II instead. I may change my order on Monday. I will be able to purchase a couple of lenses with the $1000.00 savings.

This will be my first digital camera. I am also considetting waiting for the Black Friday deals to save a few extra bucks. I am in no hurry, I waited this long, so a couple of extrea months is months is not a big deal. No GAS here, but I certinally do have the itch.

I was immensely curious about mirrorless, but loved my D3S and D800E which are like old friends to me. However the itch to see how the mirrorless cameras performed just wouldn't go away. Dipping my toes in the water, I got a Z50 with 16-50 lens and FTZ adapter for a little under $1K. Have to say I love it, and the ability to see the exposure before taking the shot was worth the price of admission all by itself.

Thanks for the information.

Hi,

I don't look for excuses no longer. I recognise that technology will not do me a better photographer, but perhaps it will help a little bit in some aspects.

I was very happy with my D750 (which I still have), but decided to jump to the mirrorless world (R5). No excuses this time: I just wanted it, and could afford it.

By the way, I also treated me to a new car (in this case yes, a change was needed): a Cayenne coupé (this specific car was not really needed, though) . If we cannot enjoy life at least after a certain age; for what is it good the money earned during years?

Miquel

Nice car. Considered by many nicer than the 911. The new ones handle well and weight distribution is good.

Another way to look at moving up to a new camera.
I am still using my A77 sony and love everything about it. Yet, I know it's time to move on, and here's why.

1, I was at a wedding yesterday and the young photographer had two Sony 7rIII's hanging on his shoulder strap. After the take he explained why the new innovations in the 7RIII were so beneficial for his purposes.

2, Even though an older camera may have all the bells and whistles you need, even those will be advanced in the newer camera.

3, And, you can look at the software in the camera the same as the software in your computer and if you don't keep up you'll always be playing "Leapfrog" trying to catch up.

However, if your enjoying the pic's and camera currently, What the heck.

One step closer. : )

Actually, there's a lot I can still learn about the Nikon, Fuji, and Sony.

Know what you mean , if you do not know how to use what you got, a new camera would not help you to succeed !
You can succeed with any camera if you truly know how to use it , success is knowledge not a new camera.

As long as my camera has a shutter button, I'm all set.
