Are you a camera collector or a photographer? It’s been my experience that you can only use one at a time, enjoy your collection

I often use multiple cameras on a shoot, mounted with different lenses, I shoot with all of them (one at a time). Sometimes I shoot film and digital, (one at a time) same subject.

Does that mean I am a camera collector?

Your definition of collector seems narrow and it felt to me that you were using it like a pejorative.

It seems to me someone can have multiple cameras and use them all.

I know some people who collect cameras, they have dozens of cameras, behind glass and on shelves.

If you want a new camera just do it. You won't take better pictures than with what you have so don't make up excuses to cover for camera lust.

I've been watching camera reviews and comparisons on YouTube, and I have to be careful. The new cameras sound so good! I especially like comparisons because they point out specific differences between two cameras. So far, I have resisted the urge to buy anything. I still use my D750, Sony a6000, and Fuji X-T30. So far, so good. Unless I find a good excuse to buy something new, I think I'll be safe.

Do any of them TEMPT you?? LOL I sense you are getting weak. LOL

As much as I'd like to be tempted, it hasn't happened yet. $1,800 is a substantial amount of money, and if I don't get a huge photographic advantage from that, why bother? It's easier to give in to cheaper temptations.

I hesitated to write that number, but that's my upper range, more or less. For taking pictures of trees and pets, it's hard to justify even that much. On the other hand, I've bought ukuleles that cost more than that, and I can barely play.

I once bought a $2,000 24-200mm f/2.8. I eventually sold it because I felt ridiculous walking around with a $2,000 lens. My 28-300mm is fine, but I bought an older 28-200mm f/2.8 for around $600. That's easier to justify.

So you are obviously NOT looking for a NEW camera. what the hell sells for 1800.00? at that price you WOULD be better off keeping your old one.

I like to keep up on what's new, and I like to hear/read comparisons. That $1,800 figure stuck in my head from a recent comparison - Sony, I think.

Yeah, the a6600.

I know it is a different format, but $1600 would buy a brand new E-M1 mkIII which is basically a smaller E-M1X without the dual batteries and AI. I would love to get one for the 7.5 stops stabilization and it's abilities to focus on stars for astrophotography. But for me, I have a lens purchase once it goes on sale sometime this fall. It will give me a single lens capability of 24-200 angle of view, empty my camera bag down to about 4 pounds, and 1/2 lifesize close-ups in time for a Hawaii trip. So GAS attack with the first good fall sale.

If an old camera is the only tool you have in your bag of tricks, you need a new bag.

Those who say that they don't need a new camera aren't willing to keep learning. New cameras keep our brains alive!

Convinced yet?
