FWIW, I think cataloging functions should be built into the OS and recognized by the Finder or file mgr.

Why would you do business with a company you proclaim to hate? Do you like to be unhappy?

I don't use LR either. I have been using PS for years saving my images where and how I want to save them. I do use PS with Bridge and ACL and save my images directly to my hard drive(s). Cataloging is a royal pain and useless for me. If LR had "Save" and "Load" buttons it would have made my life much easier. I don't use other peoples presets but rather create my own in PS. For me, LR is just a water downed PS!

Lightroom's searchable data base has saves my bacon many many times. Have been using Lightroom for years and love every aspect of it.

Im at photo workshop in Maine. Im learning to use PS. One of the participants, very accomplished, feels the same way about LR catalog system as I do. My workflow is very simple and I have a good organizational system on my external drive. I want to ditch LR and use Bridge (browser capability) and Adobe Camera Raw. I understand It can do most of what LR can do. I don't batch edit. I also use Luminar 4 and am learning PS. Also I won't have to worry about LR losing photos or not recognizing a drive. Your thoughts? In an earlier post I thought my master photo disk was corrupted. It was an LR issue. I don't want this ajada.

never use LR. Never will. Have a much better program that doesn't have problems and is very east to use.

And you aren't going to share with us what program that is?

A simple maxim -- if you don't know how to use Lightroom's cataloging system, don't use Lightroom.

If you take the trouble to learn the cataloging system, you'll probably like it. If you don't learn it, you will hate it.

Either he wants to keep his advantage over the rest of us or he doesn’t want anyone to burst his bubble.

Haha, Being a programmer I know how they work, that's why I elect not to use a cataloger.
I have simpler control of my files using File Explorer.
Nothing wrong with people liking catalogers, they're just not for me.

Took a while for me to learn Lightroom. Well worth the time. It is all I use You cannot simply wade into it and try to find your way. Lightroom and Photoshop have everything One would have to have a dozen other programs to cover. You can't learn Guitar with one easy lesson either. No pain no gain.

And nothing wrong with using the OS, in fact it has advantages: (1) cheaper (2) more robust (3) simpler (4) future proof - not dependent on another company for catalog software maintenance.

NOTHING is future proof.
Maybe future resistant.............

My opinion is: If it works for you, it's a good solution for you. Maybe not so much for me.

Good point. Future resistant not future proof.

Me - I use a combination of both. I use the catalog but with my own file structure and naming system. I can find things without the catalog.

Sometimes that is handy if I want to find one image I don’t have to start up Lightroom and wait etc.

And keywords are in the metadata I can find the files with keywords using search tools.

So if the catalog were to “disappear” I’m not “dead in the water.”

And things can be moved without confusing a cataloger!
