No More Flying for Me

I decided years ago that I was through with flying. This was mainly because of price increases and service reductions by the airlines. As time goes on, passengers are another reason why I won't fly again. A passenger on Frontier Airlines was taped to his seat after he groped two flight attendants and punched a third. Imagine being stuck in an aluminum tube people someone like that.

Yes, I know that 99.9% of all passengers behave. But I also know that as soon as I get on a checkout line, the line stops because of problems. Yesterday, I had to cross a local toll bridge, and the automatic EZPass lane was closed. The lane with the guy in the booth wasn't moving. Then it moved very, very slowly. When I got there, the guy was wiping down the whole interior and closing out. Shift change. When the new guy arrived - walking slower than I thought was possible - he had to go through a whole setup procedure. Really, it was comical. Without even looking at me, he detected the EZPass and opened the gate. So, if you think I would have an uneventful flight, guess again.

EDITED:
Aug 3: "Woman duct-taped to seat after biting flight attendant, trying to open plane’s door, airline says."
July 11: "A woman was physically restrained to her chair with strips of duct tape aboard an American Airlines flight, the company says, after she allegedly tried to open the plane’s door while the craft was in flight and assaulted a crew member."

Sorry I have to disagree with you. I’m not going to curtail my love of travel because of a problem that might come up. Someone might cause a delay, someone might be unruly, it might rain, it might not meet my expectations. Life is too precious to waste thinking something might go wrong. If we have learned anything after this past year is to LIVE & do it to the fullest. Explore, travel when it’s safe to do so, roam the areas of the world. See what has been created for us. Not let others behaviour dictate our enjoyment.

I know what you mean, but I've done a lot of traveling and flying. I don't want to give any more money to the airlines.

I'm glad it's just not me getting duct taped to the seat.

I was on a flight and suffered a rude and ignorant stewardess who should have been duct taped LOL.
Fortunately the pilot was good though.

Jerry I always appreciate your down-to-earth intelligent comments. Yes you are right traveling has become
a dangerous and difficult task which used to be enjoyable. I think the bigger picture here is the violence and mad people that don't know how to behave. It's everywhere. The other day I traveled from the suburbs of Philly to my cousins in Allentown PA. I had a 5 speed Porsche and would call myself a very good driver. I have driven in countries in Europe etc. The drivers on the highway are maniacs. The trucks were risking accidents constantly. I have driven on the german autobahns and that was less scary. And we have macho people who have now developed political personalities and are ready to argue any issue. You are right I don't much travel anymore and I am glad. Stay safe.

Jerry, I agree with Mama Bear...I drive every day of the year and I've responded to more fatal accidents than most people can imagine. We had a Line Sgt. that used to tell his new troopers that if they stayed with the Highway Patrol for twenty years that they'd never see the fatals that I had responded to and he explained it as saying that the trooper would only see the fatals that happened on his shift but that I responded to all of them. And I've now been doing it for over thirty years. I'm headed out West in a couple of months and I'm going to drive because flying is not as much fun as it used to be and I always carry my gun and my dog with me...and I don't trust the airlines with either of them. And as I sit here typing this Harnett County just had a fatal head on and Moore County has a ladder truck on the scene of an injured paratrooper in a tree.

Statistically, based on the number of total flights, minuscule.
Probably have better odds of getting into a car accident.

Three hours from Dallas to San Diego vs. two days. I'll fly. Yes, once in awhile the drive is nice. Not every time.
