The only thing that might matter is perception. Nixon's high end gear was usually made in Japan. The fact that the majority of parts are outsourced from all over the world is immaterial.

Most people especially in the USA don't understand it. That is why there is no way anyone can bring back manufacturing to the USA.

Not true - Ever heard of Daimler Benz? And there were several others before old Henry got started, was fired and started again. As to Nikon failing... YAWN....ZZZZZZ. Wake me when it's over.
Yea! Oops, excuse me, I don't mean to cheer, so *yeah!*

I do not wish to get involved with the argument about Nikon but here in the UK Canon make medical equipment and in the local hospital there are CT scanners and a lot of other equipment with the Canon name on them.
If someone prefers Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Leica, Sony, Hasselblad and the other makes of photographic equipment then it shows the diversity and the range of equipment available.

We are not talking about American companies. Nikon is and always will be a foreign company whether based in Japan or Southeast Asia. Their products are foreign and always have been.

Oh, no! Sounds like Ford versus Chevy discussions!

This a forum about photography for Pete's sake. Why not discuss issues about Nikon and other photography matters and keep the political discussion of another venue!

It's my opinion whatever you think is entirely up to you. If I found a company in Vietnam I would have the factory in Vietnam. There is nothing wrong with that. You can put the manufacturing plant near where you consumers are and that does make sense. But to have your manufacturing moves to other countries for the sake of saving labor cost I can't support that. The same reason US companies moved their production overseas. I wouldn't want a Leica made in Japan. I would have no problem buying a DJI drone made in China because the company started there.
Nikon has to move all of their camera production to Thailand and they are #3. Why is that the #1 Canon makes most of their cameras in Japan and they didn't lose money? All the EOS-R series and almost all the EOS are made in Japan.
I am a Nikon fan boy.
A Canon rep told me Canon only make their new high end models in Japan for the first few years (2?) and then move the production of those models to Thailand (or off-shore). I don't know how true it is.
The Canon old models are not made in Japan anymore.

Nikon is a foreign company setting up shop in another foreign country. Americans are consumers of foreign products made in foreign countries. Doesn’t change the product. Can’t Buy American for any camera even Canon.

This is very sad!
All these negative comments and personal attacks do not belong in this forum.
We're here to help and respect each other, not insult.
I, for one, am very disappointed, and hope it doesn't continue.
