Yeah, same here. I got my days mixed up this week because of the 3 day weekend I guess and Tuesday was recycle day. I woke realized what day it was and rushed to put out the full bin, but alas they had already come and gone. I sleep with ear plugs and a white noise machine so nothing wakes me. Now I have to throw away all our recycling for the next two weeks until they come again!... which is another beef I have with them. Garbage collection is every week and we only generate enough to fill the bin every two or three weeks. Recycle comes every two weeks and we always have an overflowing bin. I wish they would reverse the schedule!

We do garbage trucks start their day so early? There are three or four companies picking up garbage on my street. One arrived at 6:06 AM today, and another was here at 6:12. Nothing on the street makes as much noise than these things, and I doubt many people are awake at such an early hour - not until the trucks arrive, that is.

Waah, waah, waah.....

Good question. I like the wake up. Then I can turn over and go back to sleep laughing to myself about the awake and working garbage men and women. Why don't you get up and ask them?

Consider yourself lucky Jerry…. Although we live in s subdivision and near a school and a church pickup days range between Monday-Friday. Commercial pickup at the school and church is usually around 3:30am. While the residential pickup is usually between 4:30 and 8:00 in the morning depending on who the collector is. Try sleeping around this once you retire.

I'm awake at 5 AM every day, so they do not bother me. I am also in the furthest room from the front of the house, so the noise is minimal for me.

In most cities pickup B4 7 am is illegal, just call the company and complain. They start early to get off early and do it at your expense.

That's exactly what I do.

We live "out beyond the boonies." The only time we hear a garbage truck is when I start my truck to go to the local garbage site! 😁
'Course, it's 20 miles to town, but NO TRAFFIC!

Fuss at your city council or government body. Here there is a noise ordinance saying no noise before 7:30. Then all the lawnmowers spring to life.

When I spent the summer in Whitehorse Yukon they had an ordinance no lawn mowing after 10pm until 8am. The sun set around 11:30 but didn't get dark until after midnight, then twilight was around 2am never getting totally dark. There was 18 hours of total daylight. Room darkening shades are a must.

I can see how having so much daylight can mess up your daily routine.

Hi Jerry,
Not as bad as in the winter when it's dark most of the time. I never spent a winter there, but I did in Anchorage. In November and December the sun came up around 10am, then by around 2pm it was dark again. That was weird and hard to get used to.

I was in Fairbanks one February and was pretty much the same, light at 1000, dark at 1400. One day the temperature hit 21F so they opened the ice cream shop.

There were a lot of people there for the project and they had to import rental cars from Anchorage. Those cars didn’t have snow tires. Anchorage is warmed by ocean currents.

Did you happen to go to the World Ice Carving competition? I went to it in April of 2002 when it was -20° F at night. The ice carvings are amazing. We had to keep going inside heated buildings to defrost. When we left the tires were frozen to the ground and I had to warm up the rental car for quite a while to even move. There was very little snow on the roads but the parking lot was covered with it. And like you said, no snow tires.

Here are the only photos I took. It was too cold to take gloves off to take many photos and with not much of a camera back then.

Did not see that. I was there in 1968.
